THE EMPIRE HAS HAD ENOUGH OF IT!
Eleven people work for every Britisher: this simple way of expressing it most clearly demonstrates the importance of the Empire for Great Britain. 45 million people inhabit the British Isles, whilst about 500 million people (of a total of two milliards) were embraced by the Empire at the time when it was most extensive after 1918.
15,600,000 square miles of a total of 54 million square miles over the whole earth were ruled by London, the proportion of the area of Great Britain to that of the Empire was more than 1:150.
The indirect but not less effective influence of the British on numerous independent states enabled them to control more than half the world. 250 wars in approximately as many years were necessary in order to found this power.
But in the world the destruction of the natural order cannot be maintained for ever.
The first signs are already there:
