What is this gun in the picture (a capture from S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl?
Not a quiz; I'm just trying to find out what gun it is.
P.S.: Is this off-topic?

It's a heavily converted version of an M-16 variant.

Yup and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a game with pizzaz... OMG I've been waiting for this game for sooooo long now. They can delay it a hundred times and I wouldn't care as long as its for sure coming out, anything to make sure it realeases nicely would suit me.

I figured from the slide and the plug but I'm somehow inclined to belive that it might be some obscure russian knock-off. It might also be an XM177 or an M4 with a folding stock and modified handgaurd.
Not sure though...

I checked the STALKER website, and it's called the LR-300ML.
The latest development of the Z-M Weapons company owned by Allan Zitta. The latter is well known for his extensive experience in developing new battle and sports pistols based on Colt Ì*1911. LR-300 is nothing else but a new stage in AR-15 development. LR-300 stands for Light Rifle of effective fire up to 300 meters. It is a LR-300 upper and lower receiver with a new type of interconnecting op-rod gas system, which allows for a short barrel and folding stock giving the weapon it's compact feature. The diverted felt recoil keeps the weapon on sight, with no muzzle rise. Used by advanced stalkers. Dirt-sensitive. Requires regular maintenance.
So in essence it is an AR15 variant. The M16 being also an AR15 variant.
Obscure, but not russian.

Of course most rifles of the Armalite AR series look similar. And the picture isn't very good. Here's a better one.

Can't be a rip-off because S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has been in development for ever. I just found out that Killzone rips its baddies off from this Japanese Anime called Jin-Roh: Brotherhood of the Wolf or something like that. Supposedly the Germans and Japanese win WWII and the Germans win overall and take over Japan. They live under control of them for awhile and then manage to be on their own though riots are rampant. So the gov't creates this special task force or something to take out the trouble makers. Who wear armor like the Killzone dudes, Have German looking helmets with *red* glowing eyes (instead of orange), and tote MG-42s as their main weapon.

The Germans don't take over Japan. It's just that like in every dictatorical state some people feel not as happy as they should and decide (foolishly :P) for opposition.
And it's not just "red glowing eye" but nightvision equipment and a gasmask.
(Is it bad for my image that I like good Anime movies?)

LOL Clark... there was a German soldier standing over the Japanese at the beginning (can you blame me for watching actual animes as well?) I know they mentioned the end of the war and there was a Wehrmacht soldier standing in the streets looking at the miserable people... That looks like occupation to me. Besides their official site says
JIN-ROH's setting is Tokyo–not the Tokyo of the future, but of an alternate past. In the bizarre, ironic tradition of Philip K. Dick’s THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE, JIN-ROH presents a Japan that lost a different Second World War–not to America, but to Nazi Germany.

Hm, seems you are right.
But it's been a while since I watched the movie last time...

Yeah, I've been looking forward to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. too. I really hope my laptop will run it when it finally comes out (2/1/06 according to Gamespot).
