Hello,

I represent a Battlefield 2-based multiplayer tournament. We are currently seeking experienced, mature players to fill several openings in the command staff. As member of command staff, you would be in charge of leading as many as 30 players at a time in weekly practices and weekend battles.

Here's a little Q&A:

What's a tournament?
A tournament is a contest in which two teams compete against one another, in this case using Battlefield 2 game. What differentiates a tournament from public server play is the level of cooperation and teamwork involved. A tournament is also made up of far more players than clans, with organized battles of up to 64 players.

What about teamwork and cooperation?
In a tournament, players are assigned into fighting units and through orders from the command staff, work together to achieve objectives and bring about victory. As opposed to public server play, each unit is assigned specific equipment, specific goals, bringing about a superior gaming experience. There are no lone ranger heroes who do their own thing: there is only the team.

What does the command staff do?
There are several responsibilities: during weekdays, the command staff sets up practices aimed at increasing troop readiness for the weekend battle. Also, the command staff prepares stategies for the maps which are then relayed to unit commanders, who then relay them to the troops under their command. Come the weekend, the command staff is responsible for leading the battles, making sure the plans and strats get executed and victory achieved.

How long does the tournament last?
Currently, there are 12 maps, divided equally between the two combatant sides. The length of the campaign depends on how good the command staff is. If you can out-general your opponent, obviously, the campagin will be shorter. A rule of thumb is six weeks per campaign.

How much time does the command staff put in?
At least one hour per day on weekdays. The battles on weekend are 12 hours long. Command staff is expected to be there for at least 3 hours.

How many people in the command staff?
Four people make up the command staff. There is one General, a supreme commander in charge of the entire force. He is assisted by his XO, a Colonel and two Lt.Colonels. Further down the command chain, the General has at his disposal individual unit commanders who in turn command the line company soliders.

This sounds interesting. A little background info on who is running this would help.

Thanks for your interest.

The Tournament is operated by four founders who have participated in a number of other tournaments in the past. We each examined our past experiences and we determined that there exists a niche for players who enjoy a bit more "realism" and maturity over other tournaments.

We are thirty-something in age and we are looking for players who are at the same level of maturity, not neccessarily in chronological years, but behavior, players who put teamwork and unit cohesion ahead of individual heroics.

To bring about a more realistic approach to the game play, we are developing a modification for BF2 which will adjust weapon performances to match up to real-life specs. We are also going to design new maps based on real life terrain. An example would be fixing the trajectory and range of tank rounds.

The Tournament takes place in an alternate reality, in the year 2000, where the Cold War never ended and combined armies of communist nations are marching across the globe. As such, we are going to build an entire Soviet and West Germany army. In addition to the current BF2 maps, we will be introducing maps in the European Theater of Operations, such as "Fulda Gap."

So, if you know tactics, if you enjoy putting together strategies and if you want to command real live people and fight against real live opponents, I would encourage you to visit our website. Prior knowledge of Battlefield franchise games would be of help to you, but is not required.

Pulaski, is the server us based or euro based? If it's euro, advertising in the german bf2 forums would probably get you a buttload of signups

The server is currently in Texas. :)

We will be moving it to New York as soon as we work out some technical glitches.

As for advertising on German sites, we are doing that, however, I forgot to mention that the West German and Soviet armies will be ADDED to the game, in addition to the existing armies.

We are going to build maps in Europe where USMC is facing off against Soviets, so it is not necessary for the command staff to be German or of any nationality in particular. Think of the command staff not as a command staff of one particular armed force, rather as command staff of NATO or Warsaw Pact.
