View Full Version : To All My Opponents (and others)

A list of issues/ problems:

First, apologies for my recent slow down in turn rate, but I think I've finally managed to overdo it - 23 games going at once is perhaps too much even for me.

Second, despite the first, I am still managing to turn everything around in 1-3 days, but I'm having some ISP problems - if I dont get a turn back to you within 3 days, could you please re-email me, as chances are my ISP has crapped out again.

Third, I have recently run across a lovely gentleman from California who is not a member of this site, but is looking for another game. I have one going with him, but am (it would seem) unable to satiate all of his needs... anyone interested? If so send me an email, and I'll pass you on.

Oh, and by the way, has anyone heard from Gunner C recently?

Gunner C posted here a while ago saying he's really busy and is going to be quite slow getting turns out for the time being. I wouldn't mind taking on your new friend from California, why don't you have him email me?

Raver....

Trying to...

:clown:

Why don't you point him this way? 2 minutes to join, and I'm sure his problems would be over! You could point out that you are playing 23 games at the moment, and seem to have little difficulty lining them up.

Excuse me but 23! games at the same time:confused:

How on earth is that possible and sending a turn at least every 3 days!

Is it just me being the abnormal twat trying to manage a turn per 1-2 days or am I surrounded by Superhumans!:D

In either case you've got my :hurray:

Some of us are lucky, and can do turns at work. I can't remember if Jason is one of those, but you'd almost have to believe so... (23?? :surprise: )

What I find the most amazing is that I've got six or seven games going now and, of all my opponents, Raver is the one that gives me turns on the most consistent basis, and this is when he's "behind" on tuns.

When it comes to getting out turns the guy is superman--or maybe a genetic mutant like one of the X-Men.

I'm sorry, but I just *can't* post what I was about to post... I'll get banned... :D

I have 7-8 (one of them is Raver with very quick reply rate) and today I could finish only two turn (2 GiOs) and it took me 4 hours, how can he manage 23. Let's assume one turn per week, one hour per turn 23/7=3 hours per day, but it is the lowest figure, it could be more e.g. 6 hours per (every!!) day....

:surprise:

Raver: I need the secret!!! ((the massage cannot be ;)

23? How can you keep track of them all? You must have some brain! :halo:

Ah the joys of being on a different timezone. Responses to all and sundry herein…

Mantis - oh go on I made that comment deliberately trying to goad you ;) No, I'm not one of the lucky few who can do TOAW games at work, but I can manage to read things and send emails from work, so I generally do all my stuff for Ben's Grand Strategy game here.

Xan - excellent, thank you I will pass your email on to him. I think you'll be a pretty good match.

And for all the rest of you, I don't think its that I am fast, its just you are all too damn slow! With one or two notable exceptions that is. But in the interests of community spirit I posted some of my secrets in an earlier thread, but here are a few more…

Basically its all about multitasking - you can do a lot of things while watching replays or waiting for your turn to load.

Have a shave while watching a turn replay. Tricky but it can be done, you need to take care not to lather wider than the shaveable area - if you inadvertently lather over your eyes or clog up your breathing holes, you will have to pause the replay and take remedial action. Similarly you must be careful that you do not cut off anything vital for TOAW play - you can withstand a few nicks and cuts, but losing an eye or ear will reduce your TOAW skill level.

Get dressed while watching a replay. Literally change clothes, put on your shoes, etc while watching the computer screen. I have found it CRUCIAL to get the wife to do a quick check upon completion of the dressing ritual - just for the obvious things like are you wearing underwear, are they inside your pants, is your shirt on the right way around, etc. Particular care needs to be taken when doing up your fly.

Do your ironing. Planning is the secret here - set up the board and iron while a turn is loading, play the turn while the iron is burning its way through the board, and then you can spend the next replay phase putting out the fire and apologising to your wife. After a few attempts you will get the timing right and you'll be able to iron during the replay phase. Once you have graduated to this stage you must still take care not to iron any part of your body that is needed for TOAW play.

Cook dinner. Not for the novice student. Burning your house down will be a huge setback, and may not be worth the extra few minutes you save for TOAW play.

Of course all these things can lead to mistakes in your turn, but that's a price you have to pay.

Too slow? Too slow?! If only you knew my pain...I think I have 10 games going right now (give or take 1), and I'll play all the waiting turns each morning before going to work (I only work parttime, a couple hours each afternoon...hey, I'm a student!), hoping more arrive before I have to leave. While at work, I'll eagerly watch my email for more to come in...my evenings are usually spent with my girlfriend, although sometimes later in the evening I'll get to play a few turns.

I have 10 games going and I'm always waiting around for turns hoping to get more...I get bored in the morning before going to work. Play faster people! I keep trying to add more games, but I guess everybody's schedules are full, since nobody wants to play 2innorm against me. Sob.

Actually, "Raver" has you all fooled. "He" is not even a real human being. More precisely, he's not an individual human being. The entity known as Raver is, in reality, a clan of Kiwi gameplayers who share the games they're playing, and live in a Marxist Commune just west of Christchurch. As their basic needs are secured by the shared labors of all, so are the diversions allowed them in the form of electronic gaming, thus their extreme efficiency in replying to turns from so many unsuspecting individual gamers.

From each, according to ability. To each, according to need.

Long live the Revolution!

Interesting. Jamiam's theory actually makes more sense than ONE man playing TOAW while he eats, shaves, and works. That is just too much to believe.

Raver is a hive collective!

Funny thread

Wait a minute...:) when I was on a bussines trip to New Zealand, Wellington, there was a huge building with a big sign "JASON'S - TOAW & PARTNES CO. LTD."

It was gurded by a guy with AK 47 so I didn't wanted to get in just like that...
:D
