I think i'm more akin to an Orc - well over 6 foot, trying to hit the 300 pounds, and dont mind playing in the dirt... :cheeky:

it does? I got nothing yet....
Besides, you start it, we'll end it :ar15:
Ok, shame on me, the file is here, it automatically went into my victory folder and i didnt see it :p :cheeky:

File sent to Boff. Life issues held us up. Should be smooth sailing from here.

I've got one player scampering out of the way of the latest hurricane.
But!...that won't save you Trippenhiemerschlossmeister. You an' yer Italian gang-o-sheep shaggers are doomed. :cheeky:
See, it's not as easy as it "sounds" at the start to get 6 players on the same page with the "same" units on the same map... :halo:
But once you get that first turn turned around it gets much easier. :D
But I think I'll skip the 1 division per side idea for rd2...
Although, in any good sized MP scenario providing ample units per player we'll get darn close.
I'm not sure, is there any interest in small unit formations in our MP: say 1 Co or less per player?
I was more or less thinking that "we'd" want to control good sized forces in large heroic struggles: each teams working with multipile Btn's not a few Plts.

Personally, no! I also think we'd run into command and control issues. In a large-scale game the commander should only need to keep an overview of his subordinates, issuing orders (or should that be 'requests'?) relatively rarely. In a small-scale game it would require a much more 'hands on' approach, somewhat defeating the object of playing a MP game imo.

Companies are too small and much more than a reinforced battalion is probably too large. The UN team has one 'Director-General' :halo: and two 'Project-Managers' :hail: :hail: running the organization and the division of labour is quite triangular,...as it should be in any international 'world governing body'.

I think it would be fun. Our first MP game in KG was with about a company per person (depending on the division of forces, obviously) with all kinds of communications rules and so on. It was quite the event.
It was something to think about.
Not sure where a small formation game would work into the event.
Some internal starting problems were encountered with one of the matches (note sent to all the TC's about it), so please report any problems ASAP as it could affect all the other matches.
Anyway- I ran a test with that match through 2 turns and the upload time (my PC saving the turn) was about 10 minutes! Loading time was normal but saving them!!!! And that was my messing with only @10% of the units on the map.
I suspect that huge loading/upload times will be common. You might try turning off the labels, dust, flags etc before ending the turn to speed things up.

Just thought I'd let you all now that I've been breveted to the post of 'team commander' due to Boff's current set of problems. As to how long I'll be wearing this pointy hat of derision is unclear. Anyway, I'll endeavour to have a strategy formulated and the troops parceled out promptly - hopefully our opponents won't have to wait too long for their next file :)
It was pointed out that the files grow rapidly to 3 megs, I suspect some even larger files once the firing starts & unit count climbs.
If you can please take note of such "things" as it will aid in future round designs.
Lol, we exceeded 3Mb a few turns ago and we've only just watched turn 5 :surprise:
So far turn 4 took 45 minutes to generate and turn 5 took 26 mins. We've just had the first exhange of shot by armour and the Brits are up 2-0...
There's an awful lot of dust in this game, visibility is well below 10m in some places
All the bells and whistles will slow this down big time, I hope everyone is Zipping those files!
With a 4Mb broadband connection, who needs winZip?

Ha, I have a PIV 3.4 proc and it took me something like 30-40 minutes to generate a turn and i was thinking bloody hell, just as well i didnt do this on my other Celeron machine....
I did notice the proc was only running at 50% throughout the generation tho - may have to double check that...
ANZAC's have drawn first blood against the UN tho, 37mm has removed 2 pesky MG scout tanks from the game :)

Yes! We are moving along quite nicely in our game. I only hope Both of our teams can continue at this pace. :)
Warning! Nig and our teams have completed turn seven. Although the file my team generated for this turn was "only" 2.44 mb, it took my new "gee-whiz" computer 30 minutes to create the movie file.

Haha we're a turn behind you i think, and drawing first blood on some of those British light AFV's, 1 37mm has 2 light AFV's and a carrier notched already :)
The last time i generated a turn, i went out and took the washing off the line, folded it all nicely, then had a coffee and smoke, perfect timing when i walked back in - just finished :)
It's gonna be my turn to generate the turn next, anyone want to run a sweep on how long it'll take?
Story so far...
Allied losses... some stuff ;)
Axis losses... more stuff
Dunno really, there's far too much dust to see
...i went out and took the washing off the line, folded it all nicely...
Aww, how domesticated your are! :)
My other (better?) half is away all week and all the batchelor sh*t is piling up nicely... now where are my clean socks? ... do I have any :whist:
Nig it appears to me that you've got the losses count backwards! An awful lot of British vehicles no longer seem to be running. Maybe they're just out of petrol and you need to get your pit crew on them!
But there will be plenty of time for counting when the game is done.
This all sounds really exciting ...
My match is still at the setup phase
WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come on guys lets get this show on the road- who's the hold up and are any other matches still not under way?

Ah now see i have yet to find my better half - well, i might have found her, but shes halfway round the world at present so its essentially the same thing :)
And dont get me wrong, it was a case of absolutely nothing to wear, and i mean absolutely, 6 washing loads later.....

As I posted earlier, Boff's problems meant that he was unable to perform all his duties as team captain, passing the 'burden' over to me (temporarily it seems) :) Our strategy is set and our forces are now allocated and positioned, I'm awaiting the reply from KG_AGCent. Barring anymore unforeseen interruptions I expect the match to proceed at a good turn rate :)

More bad news in the Monty vs KGAG_Cent match up. Having finally got my file off to the KG boys I've had a reply from them saying they have completely messed up their initial set up giving them an unwarranted overview of our starting positions. As such they would like to restart the whole game, something we're prepared to accept. However, they have also offered to 'throw' the game if necessary.
What should we do?
...they have completely messed up their initial set up giving them an unwarranted overview of our starting positions
Does this mean they've gained an unfair advantage and want to start again in the sense of fair play? In that case you should start again.
Else, if they've simply made a bad choice of their own set up (and thereby messed up) they should just try to work with it.
Knowing the KG boys I expect its' the fair play option :halo:
I would vote to restart, this is an involved "extended" game and warrents being played. :)

I'm still waiting for the new setup file from the KG-ers :(
We're in either turn 10 or 11. Since Monday Nig and his guys have had the latest file across the pond in the UK.
Remember to send me turn 10!!!!!
DOOF!!! ignore the above & see below.. :whist:
Kerry I thought that we were send you turns #8, #12 & #15. We have already sent you turn #8.
There is no word of which I am aware that tells us what files (if any) you want after that.

Real life rears its ugly head and I'm forced to look for a player to step into my spot in the Triad as of Dec 1st, 2005. My job is taking me into the frozen north of Canada on a regular basis for at least the next 6 month (hopefully less). While I will have internet access, I won't have a private PC. I will offer the UN brigade command to one of the other regimental commanders and the new UN volunteer can step in.
Sadly,...this means I'll have to bow out of the CMBO, 3MiF and even (perhaps) the CMAK CoG tourneys. Very sad,...very sad indeed.
Your steadfast presence & humor will be missed!
:salute:
Best of luck & watch out for those big white fuzzy things. :cow:
No not the polar cows, the other big white fuzzy things- :freak:
So, do we have anyone who wants to join "The Steel Triad" UN Team as a "temporary" regimental commander? This is assuming that The Purist returns for round 2 in 2006.
(read this thread for entire details)
The UN Team (allies) consists of: The Purist, Cougar-DK & BigMik1.

Oh no Gerry..... I will miss you. You are a great opponent and a even better team mate.
I hope somebody will step in and take command for our forces.
Hate to see you go Gerry, we will miss you.

File size warning: our last movie file has grown to almost 6 mb!
The good news is that it did not take as long to process as some earlier and smaller movie files.

What I like about this game format so far is that I can enjoy the action of a really REALLY large battle, and yet only have to worry about commanding a subsection of the troops. For the rest, I can sit back and watch the drama unfold. Kinda fun knowing that the success of your teammates are at stake by your own actions, as well.
Who took over from the Purist as commander of the UN?
Been a few weeks now and no word...

Well I am on the UN team and I agreed to take over, but I have not heard anything for weeks also. I keep checking here to see if the contest is still going.

This one will run for years if the players keep sending the files.
Will check on everyones progress.

My game is progressing very slowly, even allowing for the much delayed start. We're only on turn two
I think we are one turn away from emailing a movie file so you can see if reinforcements should be release Kerry.
So Turn 8?
Just that since the Purist has gone we had one turn which we replied to a few weeks ago and then its all gone quiet....
Yup, just checked, we watched turn 7 last and emailed that on nov 21...
So waiting on UN orders for turn 8.

In our game the British wrecks are pilling up at an alarming rate. I hope that gangster Churchill doesnt get to upset. :devious:
The trans-Atlantic game between Nig's team and my team is already passed turn 20. Where is everyone else?
More than two months and no word?! Perhaps one can understand that from German teams forced to play as the Italians. But from the Brits...inexplicable!
You know how long it takes a "passenger turtle" to cross the Altantic- in WINTER!

We are on T13 as Bruce vs Panther.
The Italians have a LOT of guns dug in around Sidi Salem (or whatever it's called). Looking forward to dealing with that issue...
I am somewhat amazed at the slow turn around time on these moves. At our current rate (one move every two weeks or so), I don't really see the game coming to an end in the near future.
Palantir, what was YOUR expectation? Are we way behind?
T32 here now... :) and I'd also like to see how you deal with the guns that are dug in around sidi salem (whatever).
The one turn every two weeks is just about right when you consider how many emailing's it takes and allowing for 1-2 days per player.
The "next" scenario will not be very big, I think that is the slow down.
Kerry what became of this idea you had almost 11 months ago?
"2. I'm thinking of creating a sub-forum for TST.
In it will be a General/Axis/Allied thread."
At a minimum we need a sticky thread for TST.
The anticipated length of this event was "determined" by others to be a handicap for creating a seperate sub-forum...
OK--but we rate at least a sticky thread. All the other tournaments appear to have one.

LOL@Kerry. I didnt mean that you were crazy. You in fact may be crazy, but i doubt its because of this. I simply meant that if a tourney was going to run for a very long time, wouldnt it make sense to have a dedicated area to have discussions about it instead of one insanely long thread?
See I knew my/our idea wasn't crazy!!!!
I'll sneak in and ask again...
Kerry--our game with Nig's team is now in turn 43. As I recall, we are supposed to go 45 turns. Please confirm the number of turns to the end of the game (currently I don't have access to my email that is on my Austin hard drive in which you may have addressed this issue). At the end of turn 45 (or whatever the correct number is), do we both hit "ceasefire" button?
Yes that's correct T45 is the end turn. CF and then send me the final turn.
A team of highly trained specialists  will look over the map and determine who best accomplished their mission orders in the time allotted.

Any idea when the next round starts or best guess for a starting date? Thanks.
Geech a guy takes a week off and I'll I get is more, more, more!
Although my "week off" from CM meant the following:
1. Checking the CM forum daily.
2. Play-testing 2 scenarios.
3. Designing one tournament scenario.
4. Playing one game.
Ahhh what a relaxing non-CM week!
