View Full Version : Database Installs
Sorry if this has been covered, I did not see another thread..
I have installed DB2000 as directed into my H3 database file and overwrote the originals. It works great. My question is what to do with the other databases- Colonial Wars, WW2, etc. I have downloaded them into the H3 folder, but have placed them into separate files for each database. Am I to extract them directly into the Database folder where DB2000 resides? I have tried scenarios from each database and they seem to work fine in my current configuration, apart from a few anomalies such as a helo not launching properly and an error message regarding weapons load not found in annex.
Thanks for any input.

Make different subdirectories in the database folder
harpoon3\database
harpoon3\database\DB2000
harpoon3\database\ColonialWars
harpoon3\database\ANW
etc...
Unzip the databases to the subfolders. Then before starting Harpoon3 copy the DB you want to use from its subfolder into the main DB folder. When doing this make sure that you only use those scenarios that have been designed for that specific DB. You might want to consider creating subdirectories in the battleset folder for that.
The next release of Harpoon will include a Launcher utility that will make managing different DBs and their scenarios much easyer. If you want to you can already try it as it is in open beta testing. For more information about this take a look at the beta testing page (http://mediawiki.advancedgaming.biz/index.php?title=H3C:BetaMain) on the Harpoon wiki.

Whenever I switch to a scenario that requires a different database, I simply unzip / copy the 17 files of that database into my default Database folder and overwrite whatever I had there before. I am certain that there are lots of ways of managing DBs, but this one works for me.
When you have a message that says the helo did not launch properly or that there is a "missing weapons load error", this is usually indicative of a Database mis-match error.
In general, this means that the database (or its version) which you are using to run the game is not the exact same as the database/version used to create that scenario. Often, it is small little errors as you are experiencing. However, if the variance is great enough, it can crash your game. The only advice that I can suggest is that you be careful about matching the database to the one that the designer specifies for his scenario.
Personally given the size of HDDs these days I create seperate installs for each db and even seperate installs for MP and SP varieties then I can just setup shortcuts on the desktop.

Got it! Thanks all for the great and quick replies. I'll be seeing you on the forums.
Thanks again.
