View Full Version : Which View Do You Play In . . . ?

I've always been curious which view people chose for playing; if they used any one constantly; and most of all the reasons why.

I almost always move, melee, and fire in 2D zoomed in. If I want to get a better feel for the overall situation, I change to 2D zoomed out.

If I want to really make sure I understand the terrain (for tactical reasons), I'll go to 3D zoomed in. I can't say I've ever used 3D zoomed out for anything.

Hindsight always being twenty/twenty, I realized as soon as I posted this that I had omitted two obvious choices: "Either 3-d View" and "Either 2-d View." I'm a little like you: I plan and reconoiter everything first in 2-d zoomed out, then zoom in for close 2-d for the actual clicking." 3-d doesn't seem to help me; can't "see" in it.

2d Zoomed in almost entirely exclusively. 3d gives me a headache, and I've learned to read terrain just fine in 2d (including Height)

BTW: Something for your information. Franklin has a different color scheme for ground heights than any of the other games. It is NOT consistent. If anyone else relies on this, let me know and I'll tell you how to fix it.

I'm still sticking with 2-d zoomed in because I use that probably 85% of the time.

Same as Brent...sometimes will hit the others, but easily 85% of the time is in 2D normal mode.

Generally I play in 2d zoomed in but I find myself going to 3d about 10% or so of the time. Most times it is to check out the terrain more closely but in some cases it is because it is very hard to see the roads through some of the woods terrain. I've really had trouble with some of the Gettysburg scenarios that involve the mountain gaps seeing the roads for the trees.

Three cheers for 3D view!!!

95% of the time I'm playing in 3D View, usually zoomed out.
When fighting is heavy and on close ranges it is always 3D zoomed in.

When map is big and I want to take overall view I'm switching to 2D zoomed out.

2D zoomed in - I never use it in ACW games :)

...2D zoomed in - I never use it in ACW games :)wow, maybe that's why you keep kicking my butt! (I need to find some excuse besides my generalship!)

Except for Campaign Gettysburg, I exclusively play in 3D zoom out. In Gettysburg, the colors used for the double elevation levels often make distinguishing elevations too difficult in 3D. It is hard enough in places with 2D! My cheap old monitor probably doesn't help either!
