Wasn't he captured and his brigade forced to surrender since the militias refused to cross the river?

He refused to serve under a Militia officer of his own grade, so he was left with the supporting artillery.

But I'm stumped, as placing Scott's & Winders names in comparions is not something I would think of!

Burlington Heights. Both were captured in those respective battles.

Correct, though I usually see that battle referred to as Stoney Creek :)
