View Full Version : Is there a way to over-ride the computer's movement route?

Here's the sitution: I've had the perfect movement path chosen for a unit, either to keep it concealed or attack from a specific location. Yet, even if I'm moving the unit hex by hex, the computer insist on taking the path that cost the least movement points. In theory, that sounds grand, except when your unit is suddenly spotted because the computer decided to jump onto the road hex then to the hex you are trying to move to or worse, locked by an enemy ZOC.
Any way to prevent this behavior?

Odd, I've never had that problem.
When you move 1 hex at a time, are you moving just by right-clicking on the target hex, or by using alt-rightclick?
I'd suggest not using alt-rightclick unless you are moving a chain of units. If you just rightclick to move one hex, it will follow your path, regardless of MP (believe me, I've carelessly moved cav into woods or the like often enough to know that)

Unless I am using alt-right-click for a column of units, I almost always use drag and drop. I wonder if right-click instead is the answer in those situations.

Gary - you lead me to the answer!
Examine the three files below:
m1 is the starting position.
m2 is a what happens with a drag and drop.
m3 is what happens if I select the movement hex with a right-click (which is the path I want)
That's good to know stuff! If you want to make sure the unit moves exactly how you want it to move, use right-click!

actually, I find right click to be superior much of the time. For instance, the pathfinder AI does not take into account disrupting terrain. Thus, it may decide that sneaking that cav unit across a corner of the woods is better than taking the "long" way around on the roads. Well, suddenly the horses are disrupted and not moving as far as they should have.

... suddenly the horses are disrupted and not moving as far as they should have.oh yeah, that one has spanked me too! And darn those units seem to take FOREVER to return to good order.
I Never drag-n-drop units...but use the Alt+right-click constantly. Remembering to remove my finger from that Alt key at times like that really helps. :cheeky:

Heh, other than pulling up reserves, I rarely use anything but the tedium of simple right click *L*
