Got 'em all but Ozark and if I can get my act together in the later rounds of the Rumble in Pennsylvania I'll have that too!

Rich - is it okay if I make this a public poll so we can see who "voted" for which games?

I have them all.
Wow, more people own Peninsula than Gettysburg? Suprising...but good! :)
I have Gettysburg, and have just ordered Peninsula (not reflected in the poll). I'll buy Shiloh too, at some stage, unless Tiller puts out a Chickamauga game in the meantime.
BTW, is there any of the first three games you guys would particularly recommend for purchase, and why ?

I only have Peninsula at the moment -- but I eventually want to try to get them all (if you guys ever have a slow down again - it might happen too ... but don't do it on my account ;) )

They are all good...I recommend Campaign Franklin, which covers last grand trial of the Confederate Army of Tennessee (Spring Hill-Franklin-Nashville).
Especially campaign game is interesting. Battles are not too long, terrain is generally open so lot of fun here.
You will find here Forrest's powerfull cavalry corps or famous infantry units such like Pat Cleburne's division or Opdycke's Tigers.
Finally, in this game artillery mean something ie. arty. fire is accurate and that's fine.
Franklin was my first HPS game and I love it - just started my sixth campaign here:)
Another good pick is Corinth which has a number of additional scenarios/patches available on the net.

I've reset the poll to include Shiloh. If you plan on getting it soon, go ahead and include it in your vote. (sorry to do it this way but there's no other way to let you update your votes!)
I plan on picking up Shiloh as its the newest one out but I do not have any other the others. I am torn between ACW and EAW/Napoleonic. I am thinking I will probably lean towards whichever era has more of a following.
I have Campaign Gettysburg. I'll never finish all of those scenarios. How is the Peninsula Campaign for sheer fun compared to Campaign Gettysburg?

I came over from the ACW history section on an invite from Rich. I mainly play ACW board games but this looks interesting to at least try. I have none of these games, I assume HPS games. So in newbie tradition, which should be my first purchase?
Thanks,
Keith

Welcome aboard Keith. My first recommendation on which HPS game to buy is which of the campaigns/battles interests you the most. They are all good so I'd pick your favorite campaign and go from there. If you don't have a favorite then my recommendation would be for Campaign Gettysburg. The maps are huge and there are probably more scenarios then you can ever play. I also find the campaign brances to bring a lot more varied what-ifs then any of the others. You can end up fighting across parts of Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. If I could only have one ACW game this would be it. Some folks like Corinth as there are many player designed mods/batttles that can be played on it but only at the cost of not upgrading past the 1.01 patch. I for one am willing to for the design teams at HPS to put out the modded battles and play the ones I've got now.

Welcome! I would go for Gettysburg first, then Peninsula or Shiloh.

In Peninsula you will find many strong regiments (500-800 men), mostly with C and D quality. Rebel artillery is no match for Federal excellent 4 and 6 gun batteries of napoleons and rifled cannons. Maps are not as large as in Getty.
Scenarios are very interesting, covering Seven Days in all possible manner (many not too long big battles here).

Thanks for the responses, I ordered Gettysburg but Peninsula was a close second as that campaign has always been a tough one to play in CWBS (Gamers) and lots of different actions throughout.
Keith
Update, changed my mind and got Peninsula.

i was planning on picking up gettysburg as my first ACW game, but i want to get into the ladders and tournies w/ you guys so i think i will make my purchase depending on that. do you have any idea when you might know for sure which game you will be using.
As for the ladder - we support all of the HPS Civil War games now - so you could pick up any of the six and get a game right away.
As for Tourneys, our current one is using Campaign Gettysburg, and we are getting ready to enter the third and final stage of that. So, I have begun thinking about offering a second tourney, which I will run a new poll on right now. So check for the new thread here shortly.

thanks rahamy, ill be following it closely.
can i ask how long these take aprox. i guess i may as well just buy a game and then just buy whichever one you guys decide on as well.
i want to eventually have all of these and the PzC ones as well. :cheeky:
This current tourney has been running since May 3rd...so 5 months, and we still have the last round to go. It will be at least through December before all games are completed.
Drop me a line at Rich@hist-sdc.com and we can chat a bit more...

You can't go wrong with Gettsyburg Campaign, but if you are interested in gaining a unique new perspective on the War in the West I'd have to recommend Shiloh.
I think we all take Grant's early victories for granted. This game can really show you how things might have turned out differently. I'm currently fighting desperately to defend Frankfort, Kentucky after failing to take Fort Donelson and losing the next two battles.
Fortunately for the Union, Frankfort is proving to be the Confederate's high water mark in the West. Massive casulaties in assaults against entrenched Union divisions plus intense street fighting in Frankfort itself.
Fascinating game... in fact, the whole campaign idea is simply brilliant.
I do wish the 3D graphics were better though. Having leaders standing as tall as a house just offends my sense of perspective
Good to see you here Rhondalynn! :) You'll have to hang around and be part of our next tournament!

I voted a couple of weeks ago and in the interim have ordered Shiloh and Ozark...but it won't let me vote again, so I figured to just post it here.
Now I own
Gettysburg
Peninsula
Shiloh
Ozark
Just ordered Gettysburg. Should get it next week then will be looking for a PBEM game.

Well I managed to snag Gettysburg for $15 from my local EB. I liked it, although it was pretty bare-bones compared to other games I've played. It's my only ACW game and I've started getting interested in that particular war. Which of the above games would u guys recommend to a noob like me? Also, my Gettysburg box came packed with a letter telling me that if I send $5 s/h to the company's address, they will send me Take Command: 1861 Bull Run for free. Hows that game? Is it worth the $5 (lol) ?
I'm guessing you picked up "Battleground Gettysburg" for $15.00, right? As the HPS version does not come in a box...
From what I have heard, though I haven't played it myself, the Take Command game should be worth the $5.00 :)
As far as which HPS game to go with, a lot depends on what interests you most. For me, I prefer the East, but many others prefer the West. So go with the theater or battle that interests you most. The engine is the same for all of them, as they all get patched with new features when they come out in the new games.

I've got them all, but I like Cornith, Shiloh and Franklin. Also picked up the Take Command Bull Run, it pretty good and the graphics are good but it's a one player game and there's no PBEM. They've got another one due out in April
Wow, we've had 70 voters on this poll...why aren't all those people playing a game then!!?
