Ever since I got this game, I always wondered why German infantry always had superior attack values against nearly every Allied infantry unit. Even American units, which had M1 Garand rifles that were superior to the German Mauser K98, still are not quite as good as German infantry. Was the MG-42 really that good? I thought that at long distances it just sprayed bullets every which way and was not accurate at all. Anyone care to shed some light on this with historical German weapons and tactics?
I think it's because the Germans thought of the MG as the basic squad support weapon- and had a light MG inherent in every squad. So, each rifle platoon has 3-4 light mg's inherent. Also- atleast at the beginning of the war- tactically speaking, they were ahead of the curve. The bolt action rifles that they and the Russians use are very similar, yet the German pltn. gets more range and a higher attack factor- its the inherent MG's, the tactics, and the quality of squad and pltn. leaders that give them the edge. I'm not sure if the attrition to the leader cadre as the war goes on, or the improvement of tactics and leaders on the Allies part is really modeled well though.

I think so too, the main firepower of a platoon comes from it's machineguns, and the germans had a clear edge with theirs, far outclassing the US BARs and Cal.30s or the british Brens.
