Hi guys
I just tried a clean install of ACOW last night. Three times, actually - once just the vanilla install, once patched to 1.04 and once to 1.06. Each time I tried to go into the scenario editor, I'd always get an "Error #8 (units 1_1_1121)" and a message about not enough memory. This happened on both OpArt and OpArt 300.
Anybody have any idea why this is happening?
I'm running an AMD64 3200 with 1 gig of RAM, WinXP SP2.
I'm at a total loss and I really, really miss TOAW. :OHNO:

I'm just guessing here but that sounds like a graphics problem (the error message sounds suspiciously like the name of a certain graphics file). Try making sure you graphics folder is clean before you do a fresh install.

I uninstalled and then deleted the entire TOAW directory. The installation should have created a brand new directory.
Might it have something to do with my video card? I didn't think that TOAW was graphically intensive enough to cause problems like that.

I really doubt it. Were you able to run TOAW on this computer before?

Hellfish, a good tip is always to ensure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card; check the company webpage for updates; if it has anything to do with your actual problem I don't know.
Maybe your registry is cluttered? There are free registry cleaners available (but be sure of what you're doing).
And don't blame me when the machine goes up in smoke!

Yeah, it used to run fine. Maybe last autumn I'd get an error every once in a while, but I'd restart the machine and all would be well. Around December it started doing it all the time. Now, when I just tried to reinstall it's still doing it all the time.
And I'm an FPS gamer, so I have all the latest drivers. And the computer is less than a year old... I can't believe my registry is that cluttered - I don't install/uninstall much at all. :nervous:
Someone had the same problem last year. Check the last three posts in this thread (http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6752), might be helpful.

I love you. I really do. That solved the problem! I switched to 16-bit and all is well!!!! :D :D :D

Der WanderChattingYeah. I can't have the refresh rate modified. I only see others' posts when I make one - I can't follow a discussion this way  ;)

Glad it helped! On a side note, I've checked my system and TOAW happily runs on 32-bit colours on my XP Pro box. Maybe it's videocard related?
What video cards do you have?
An Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller on a Dell laptop here.

@hellfish6;
Have you tried the modify shortcut to 'compatible w/win2000' bit?
My XP2 load doesn't run until I do that...
(click properties on your ToaW-acow patched 1.4 (never got 1.6 to work),tab compatability, check 'make run compatible with Win2000.
To the best of my knowledge, ToaW hasn't been patched to XP compatable, eh?
Vid cards should have nothing to do with your problem, it's all about the NT kernal drivers in XP, eh?
I have no probs with 32K color, tho I admit to serious tweaking of my bios. Hell, this is 2d, why should your vid-card care? A gig of ram of any type should take care of it all.
(my stats: 2.4 intel; radeon 9700pro128;512x333ram)
