WarheroTo my knowledge there are none available. Have you looked at SPWAW, SPMBT and SPWW2? These are all FREE downloads based on the original SP series and you don't need CD's for any of them.

Yes I know DD ;) . I really enjoy about SPWAW/MBT/WW2 but I occasinally like to play original SP1, SP2, SP3 too. I wonder why nobody seems not to made any nocd files for them (Toaw-COW, BF1942 have been made nocd for example)??? Can anyone know reason for this  ?

TOAW-ACOW and many others have no replacement and so are still very popular in their current versions. That would be my guess as to why someone has taken the time to do the "No-CD" Mod with them and not the SP series.

You actually have a computer that will still play SP 1, 2, 3?

That in and of itself is an accomplishment.

I was wandering about the other day online, found a file copy of the actual original Steel Panthers, thought to myself, why not for a lark, get it and take a memory lane trip.

Well all I know, is I now have a cd of the original Steel Panthers, but it won't run on my computer.

My SP3 will play "sort of" but sort of in this context requires I not mind abyssmal conditions, like a mouse speed that is near painful to experience.

No, Warhero, the reason you won't find any support and or mods and or no cd files out there, is the community moved on to SPWaW (Matrix Games) and SPWW2/SPMBT several years ago.

SPWaW Depot is currently the primary (well at least the most logical one that is) source for anything cool for SPWaW.

SP Camo is currently the primary (to my knowledge) source for anything useful for SPWW2 and SPMBT.

You can find a gold mine of files at Wargamer too of course.
JPs Panzers is also worth visiting.

But, no one really does anything much (to my knowledge) for the original software (likely has something to do with how DOS games and modern systems/OSs don't get along so well).

Aries, I have XP Pro and I run SP1-3 via VDMSound program. It's very good dos sound emulator (FYI for those who don't know). I understand your point about newer SP versions' popularity vs. older games but I still wonder why nobody did any nocd files a loong time ago (maybe that time were not "tools" for that ;) )?

Not impossible, but I am thinking back then, there was enough drive and or interest surrounding making the initial SPWaW and SP Camo versions, maybe all the attention was on them sufficient that the community then supporting the game moved on that fast.

Looking back, Steel Panthers was not out all that long, before it became the famous game we know today. Matrix Games for instance, I was with them as early as 2000. I am assuming they initiated their efforts earlier than that though. I got involved with SPWaW as earlier as version 4.1 Not entirely sure when David Heath and his crew started the work on SPWaW, but it would of course have been following the arrival of SP3 (the program they built it on).

Not sure how long Steel Panthers has been a program that is fully dumped on the system. Today, the only thing making a person "install" the game, is if you want some automated Star Menu bar creations. I keep a copy of my Steel Panthers WaW complete with all my Mega Campaigns as fully set up, burned to a dvd. I can just tranfer the entire folder to the hard drive, as the game does not absolutely require any manner of installation routine. Handy for a variety of purposes.

Currently, the best "no cd" fix, is to take a program like Alcohol 120%, make an image, and then load the image onto a fake drive, and then your computer "always has a cd in drive" and you don't require relying on another to make the no cd crack file.
I tend to be very cautious running any program made by a stranger, when those programs are not always without hidden malicious intent.

Well I did image file about SP2. I loaded into virtual drive but HOW can I START SP2? I checked that Steel2.exe was not included there :halo: ... Any ideas?

To my knowledge you do a proper install and then you make the image file, load the image file into the virtual drive and then initiate the game start much the same way you would if the actual cd was actually in a real drive.

That means, you would be starting with the proper exe file in the first place.

The program used to make the image file, of course needs to good enough for the task. Not all are created equal.

Hmm I think that's quite difficult to get all SP1,2,3 to work without "nocd" crack... Well, these games are made "purely" old games. If I get image file loaded into virtual drive, that folders has only "dos" install file which not allow me to install into XP environment :( ... At least I think so. Originally I got them work with simple way: I just copied each cd into separate folders and d/l'd VDMSound dos emulator from net. I just launched game with VDMSound and it worked fully :) ... But if anyone here has got them work in XP via virtual drive, let me know! I'm very interested to hear how do you did it ok?
