View Full Version : HALTED - Russian at WAR!

Gentlemen,

After much thought, I've decided to halt the Russia at WAR! tournament and determine a winner based on the Round 2 standings. As some of you have uncovered, there a number of bugs in the Nordic Light scenario. Although one can continue play and work around these bugs, I fear that the final tournament results could be tainted.

I want to thank Pelle for all of his hard work on this scenario (and Wintergewitter while I'm at it!). He asked me repeatedly to assist in getting playtesters and I failed him in doing so after saying I would.

For those of you who are currently engaged in battle, please feel free to finish the scenario and report it as a normal ladder game. I know when I played it in the past, the experience was outstanding and well worth the time spent.

I'll clean up the results from Round 2 and report the winners for the tournament once that is done.

Well I think so far it's a great scenario, so if my opponents are interested, we'll keep going off-tournie. (Becoming a nuke-addict). Bad luck with the bugs.

I feel bad as the one who originally suggested this scenario for the tournament. :o

A good decision. I take the responsibilty for the bugs and the scenario. I hope the players try the scenario out even if if there are some very strange bugs in it. The VP calculator bug and the the change of forces I still havent found out any solutions for. The rest should be OK in the new version.

Thanks for trying it out!

Pelle

P.S.
Rasmus you should not take any responsibilities for the scenario. You and foggy made me do the new version which I think is a better scenario than the old one. I thank both of you for your help and support! All bugs found is to be charged on me!

No problem, Pelle! Don't worry, we play it for fun, not for the prize...

(I prefer Rasmus for being the scapegoat! )

here is a summary of odd events i encountered in your scenario

- the problem with the vp calculation
- a us fighter unit appear in sweden even if russia doesn't dow nato
- it's possible to move some us units out of norway (you should make it impossible or write something about this in the rules)
- swedish units reconstituting in norway being stuck for the rest of the scenario if russia doesn't dow nato.
-there is a supply option for malmo, what's the point to activate it if you put a supply source in there for the russians

possible bug or wad?

-finish units reconstituting in Sweden

things that you should change IMHO
-set nordic navy to not reconstitute, same for russian navy
- increase the force profeciency for both side (i'm not sure) to avoid bad luck early turn endings
- it would be good if nordics could use their naval artillery against ships look at what colin suggested in the thread at tdg

Nordic Light:

In my humiliating loss as the Soviet side, at the very end, my Soviet forces had nothing else to resort to other than throwing empty vodka bottles at the NATO forces.................

In my humiliating lossing effort as the NATO side, my only forces slowing the advance of the Soviets at all was the establishment of the Swedish Bikini Team near the port of Malmo.............

Removing my Nordic Light results is most welcome..............

Iraq, election, merge washed away my pizzas...

Maybe we can open a thread for the old WHQ people, but we are very few now...

Well, I AM bummed that the tourney was cancelled. I didn't notice the aforementioned bugs.

Anyway, I am continuing to play it out as Nordics vs. Sargeant Major (Erik), and am having a blast with it. Just sent off T6, with the Nordics taking Murmansk, and still holding Helsinki and Stockholm. Glad to see NATO show up last turn! No nukes or chems as of yet. Don't see the need for them actually... :gas:

My game with Plutonico is at a standstill. I kept getting prodded by him to produce moves, and now that I have the time, I haven't heard a peep from him since the tourney cancellation. I have sent him a few e-mails asking to continue play, but no reponse. We have finished two turns, and I offered to call it a draw at 2 turns, huge game, etc., just to post some ladder points (in a fair manner).

Where for art thou Plutonico? Just need a yes or no. :argh:

i have a few games running with him and played him quite a few times before. he's usually a fast replier
i also haven't received turns for 2 weeks or so. he didn't tell me he was leaving somewhere but that's probably the explanation.
i hope he will come back soon

So Westpointer, what's the status of things? Have we a winner and have we a loser? Have you some interesting statistics to give us? (Who excelled the most at pointless attacks with heavy losses etc...):)

So Westpointer, what's the status of things? If you completed round 2 and started round 3, you should have received a medal (awarded last week or the week prior) for participating in the tournament. I now have everything I need to calculate the final standings ... but the early arrival of my latest child has delayed the calculations. Look for a final announcement by Thursday along with the awarding of points.

That's great, and first things first - take care of the newborn wargamer! :) Excellent work!

And a medal! Suddenly all those regiments lost mean nothing, nothing at all! :D
