Okay, this is my second attempt to post this message. I don't have the heart to repost word by word again so y'all get the waaay shortened version.

Since upgrade to WinXP, TOAW, TOAW2, FP Kosovo, and WOTY rendered useless because no place names.

Advised to get ACOW which is native to WinXP.

Got ACOW today, installed, ran, and still no place names (very dissappointed).

Web search revealed patch 1.04 and 1.06

Patch 1.04 still a no go with place names

Patch 1.06 replaced executables and...PLACE NAMES ARE VISIBLE!!!

End transmission.

:D

Bad news is that 1.06 has some serious flaws and everyone plays with 1.04. I think you will have to uninstall and then start over. This time right click on the executable file and select properties. Then select the compatability tab and have it run under Win95 and hit apply. You should see place names when you run it.

That sucks! But I just remembered, when I installed 1.04 the CD could not be found!!!

edit:I did a quick search and found a link to a 1.04 NO CD patch. Seems to be working okay for now.

Whilst I play with 1.04, I'm skeptical that 1.06 is as badly broken as everyone claims. I've seen the widely-publicised TOAWlog results- and I've made empirical tests of my own. Yes, the Anti-Tank calculations have been changed. No they don't completely skew the system.

The big problem is that version 1.06 doesn't contain any significant advantages over 1.04 that I'm aware of, and the BioEd can't be usef with 1.06.
