Have any of you tried it yet? Impressions?
Have any of you tried it yet? Impressions?
played it at a friend's house I would give it a 2 out of 5.
Do you like A.I. that gets a kick from stepping into your line of fire? No, not really
How about terrorists that are about as smart as shooting gallery dummies?
Or below average online modes?
Unless you need a small plastic disk to fix your coffee table, Stay the heck away from this game.

Been playing for about 3 or 4 days now, not terribly impressed.
Nearly finished SWAT 4, 2nd last operation, this does the squad thing much better. But anyway...
The ai is not bad, graphics are not bad, gameplay gets a bit irritating every now and then 'cos of a few bugs (the most noticable being that if you are leaning and try to reload then you get stuck in that position until the reload is finished, killed me a few times), your squad ai is generaly fair, they usualy manage to get out of the way of the most obvious fire, but once again there is the occasional problem. Missions are fairly monotonous, they are fairly blending into each other at the moment. The arrest function is a joke (but a surrendered ai will revert if left long enough, something i wish swat did).
what else...
Sound goes from good to average, your own rifle sound like a .22 (even the ak).
I would probably, if pushed give it a 60+ percent, but only cos i am a military nut. And in the hope that the bugs are fixed. And there is some kind of modding option.
so, if modern military squad shooters are your thing then get it, otherwise, wait for the bargain bin, or forget it and wait for Operation Flashpoint 2.
my pennies worth...
p.s. i also got a deal to return it for a partial refund no matter what </GRIN>

First to flop...
Stoker: AI reverting is being modded into SWAT4. But the OOTW bit of FtF is still better than OPF/VBS1.

Ivan Rapkinov: ta for the heads up, on my way to have a look see, now i want doors that open in increments, totally deformable landscape, totally open enviroment where you can just wander around looking for good deads to do, kind of like swat 3's mission interface (with the map?), but dynamic/random mission generation, i want..., want, want, anyway, still waiting for operation flashpoint 2...
cheers
:cheeky:
p.s just finished first 2 fight, all in all, fairly underwhelming.

Gamespot gave it 7.3 out of 10 (or more appropriately 7.3 out of 9.5 because no game ever got more than 9.5) which means: go and get it, especially if you're anticipating a patch. Atomic has emerged from serious financial troubles (at one point the entire team was laid off) and this is their first venture into first-person shooters. Therefore, I think they've done very well.
The best thing about the game is the enemy you face (you need a convincing villain in those games). If the developers stopped being politically correct they'd sell a lot more. Personally I just don't buy Jamaican terrorists or terrorists from the former USSR.

Got the game in few weeks ago and gave it 3 of 5, it was alright game.
I really enjoyed the single player game... an excellent balance of realism and gameplay. The AI is pretty good IMHO. Its dumb in some ways, but the AI in shooters is ALWAYS dumb in some ways. I wish those criticising it would give a list of all those games that meet their standards for AI; I'd really like to play them sometime. ;)
Co-op is fun, but with no editor is unlikely to appeal for long. The team deathmatch plays OK, but you get the feeling they did the minimum necessary, and I doubt anyone will be playing in a month or two. Its a pity really. The maps there are are actually very well designed (if too small), but the game desperately needed new gametypes (or even some more of the old ones) that suit its own distinct style. As it is, other games have much more to offer in MP.

SWAT 3/4
VBS1
OPF
just off the top of my head
while the AI in those games isn't that good, it's miles ahead of FTF.
hell, even the Jedi Knight games AI was better than this ones.
