I got TOAW 1&2 when they first came out but after I upgraded to WinXP, the place names dissappeared from the maps and was annoying me enough to stop playing the games completely. After a very long hiatus I recently reinstalled TOAW2 and the Flashpoint Kosovo add-on and began enjoying the Fulda 76 scenario only to be reminded of the invisible place name problem. A new problem has occured too. I cannot reload saved games. I get an error telling me that 'this version cannot load this scenario' something or other.
Anyway, I beg for your help to get me up to speed. Namely, how do I get place names to show up, and where can I download patches without having to register for anything.

FlipTrac, as I understand TOAW 1 & 2 is Win 98 - application, and TOAW COW is ok to go with Win XP(but still works with Win 98) and even then there could be some minor problems (I had with my previous Athlon XP 1800 + problems on Win XP with TOAW COW)....
So people buy Intel 64 bit 3.00 Ghz, I am very satisfied with this PC  must run through my old Athlon with my tank.
So, you should really buy TOAW COW - not just for reasons of almost not existing comunity for older version but for reasons that older version don't work good on new PC's with XP (maybe they work in some cases, dunno)

You can find it here http://store.navalwarfare.org/
It's 5$ cheaper than Take 2 store (40$). It's worth every cent still :)
Second hand copies are sold at even bigger price because new print is without manual. (I was lucky, got it for free from Take 2 but almost regret that I didn's payed it :devious:)

Thanks Bloodstar. I just ordered COW and Matrix's Flashpoint Germany. Anyhow, too bad my copy of COW won't come with a printed manual, but I'm sure I could make do with the manuals I own from TOAW1, TOAW1 WOTY, and TOAW2!

Glad to help. If you are old hand who played TOAW 1 you will be in the saddle with TOAW COW in no time - difference is small and you will quickly learn all of it through play.

Still not the printed one but it comes close.

You will get a pdf manual on the cd also.
how do I get place names to show up
should be under View ... Options ... Place Names
choose invisible, visible, or floating iirc
I was going to offer a game of TOAWII but you'll want to play COW if you have it.
Cheers!

You are correct Hellen, but the problem I am experiencing must be a bug because no matter which setting I choose (visible or floating) the names do not show up. Thanks anyway. Can't wait for ACOW to arrive.

perhaps an adjustment to desktop resolution ... ?
I use 1024x768 , anything higher than that I have trouble seeing stuff.
i think its in Settings under control panel ... display
@FlipTrac:
I'm running XPpro, what I did (after patching acow to 1.04) was to find the 'short-cut' icon, click properties, click the 'compatability' tab, and set it to win2000 compatable.
This should work for any version,eh? Has to do with the NT kernel used to run the OS in XP.
