AAR: Dawarka
By Paul Bridge
From the Pakistani side:
I re-organized my bombardment group to facilitate a sprint at flank speed towards the harbour at Dawarka. At the same time, I started moving SS Ghazi towards the Bombay harbour in hopes of catching the INS Vikrant as she left the harbour. I went to periscope depth and was pleasantly surprised to find her heading towards Dawarka at a steady pace of 20kts. I plotted her path and moved Ghazi to intercept. I decided to gamble a bit and go to full speed so that I could hopefully sit at creep speed in front of her.
As the bombardment group made its way to Dawarka, it was detected and attacked by an Alize MPA. The Alize was promptly shot out of the sky with the massed AAA of the group but not before hitting one of them with an AS-12. Luckily, the damage did not sink the ship and she was able to proceed to the target.
The Ghazi came back to periscope depth just in time to find that the CV had not changed course and would pass within range of her torpedoes but just barely. Unfortunately, there was a destroyer escort directly in the way of the torpedoes so she would have to "shoot" her way into the task force. (Since this was the first time using the new DB, I was uncertain of the effectiveness of the torpedoes). She fired an entire spread of 6 Mk37 fish at the destroyer (INS Talwar) and promptly sank her. Evidently, Ghazi was not counter-detected as the CVBG continued onwards blindly. The Ghazi sat at shallow depth and crept in closer. After guesstimating the CV position, she went to periscope depth to confirm the targeting data and was rewarded with a beautiful view off the port bow of INS Vikrant. A photo was taken to commemorate the event before another spread of torpedoes was unleashed. These included the more powerful Mk14 which promptly sank the carrier. Following behind was the CL Mysore, the next victim. Seeing that there was a surfeit of torpedoes, Ghazi decided to try for one last escort. With her remaining torpedoes, she sent the INS Betwa to the bottom and crept away from the carnage she had inflicted.
The bombardment group made landfall and promptly destroyed every installation before retiring at high speed. There was no pursuit.
A very pleasant scenario.
Thanks, Paul.
