Hey guys, do you know if the CS scenario editor has a size limits when it comes to map dimensions and number of units? I know it's pretty big, but does anyone of you ever "took it to the edge"? :smoke:

I have yet to come across scenario size limitations based on what CS allows. In my experience it has been due to the limitations of the computer system.
For example, when I tried creating larger scenarios with my previous computer (PIII 450, 512 RAM), the map would be limited to around 150x200 hexes. Anything larger and there would be a delay when placing new "tiles".
Now, with a new machine, I'm presently working on a map of 440 x 390 and expanding with no refresh issues at all.
Scenario wise, with larger scenarios on the older machine, halfway through the replay the graphics would fail. The turn would continue but after it was done, a save and restarting the computer was necessary to get the graphics refreshed enough to let me play.
This is no longer an issue with the new computer.
Hope this helps
Take care and good luck

Ok Jason, thanks for the info, I'm gonna try to design a highly historical recreation of D-Day on one map :surprise: The map won't be a problem I think but I'm worried about failing graphics.

No worries... you should be able to map out the entire Normandie region on a map 600 x 360 with about 40% of that map being water. That would cover an area including: all of Cherbourg peninsula, a few kms south of St Lo and as far east as Le Havre.
Good luck!!

I can't wait to download and play your new scenario Boonierat - I love large scenarios. It will be great seeing how far I can get as the allies - or maybe seeing if I can push the allies back into the sea!
I'm especially interested in the Utah beach area, if only because I've never seen a scenario for Utah beach.
And Jason - I can't resist - isn't the Cherbourg peninsula called the Contentin peninsula? :D
Stay loose everybody. :smoke:

Working too much... slowly losing it ... assuming I had it to begin with of course.
Take care and good luck

I have been doing the CS games since they first hit the shelves, I went throuh the Ciuvil war games waiting for the WWII. Then West Front hit. I thought it was the BEST game electronically ever created. Then Bam there was East Front. The another one. The holy Trinity of war games. Rising Sun. It is an amazing series of games that tweeks the developer side of oneself while testing the patience of a board game. I had a blast editing DCG's that recreate Unit and leader movement while in the default campaign style. Creating the III Corps US, !st Panzer Army. Great stuff, but what I lack in enthusiasim for the game is opponents. I have never played by email. I reid to play the Game spy thing or what ever that was that the only thing you could play Was EF 1.0. Had to downgrade in order to play online. Let me know if someone wants to have a decent opponent (I hope I don't make you laugh, with some of the Tactics) Just let me know

Thank you. You have given me new hope that when I buy my next computer,
map capability will improve. I have an old Alienware machine with 1 Ghz and
512 megs of RAM. It used to have only 256 megs, and when building my largest
maps it would take several minutes to execute a change. Now it takes 7-12 seconds. Still poky, but not excruciating. Since I prefer enormous scenarios, it
is fortunate that I have infinite patience. There seems to be no vertical limit to
the maps you can build, but there appears to be a fixed horizontal limit of 512
hexes. My largest scenario ( Operation Typhoon-Phase Two ), is 512 X 2100.
I really need to have about 800-900 hexes wide to do this scenario properly.
When I try 514 hexes wide or larger, the program locks and the file is corrupted.
