View Full Version : Panzer Campaign Tournament
Guys
We are about 20 players signed up for the ladder. How about a small tournament for starters. Please take the time to vote on the title you would like to see in a tournament and I'll set it up.

Well,
I haven't even got it in my hands yet (it's in the mail) but MG '44 will be the first and only PzC game I have so I'll vote for that.
I'm on the ladder though and would be willing to participate.

All opinions count here Denis. Looking forward to play you in a tournament or a PBEM game of MG44.
Bonne journée Denis.
I voted for Khrarkov. Pretty fluid battles, plus I have it. :D I don't have MG44 or Bulge :( but if one of those is the winner, I guess I can always get it. :D

I'm in - don't care which title -got them all... need to find that post on how to edit it so you don't have to swap out disks all the time ... that is sort of a PITA.
Edit -- ok got all the WWII titles rather...
I'm also pretty flexible as I also have them all. You guys will choose and we will try to get one that all or alot of members have already.

Rather then a poll maybe it would be better to ask everyone what games they have and then pick the one we have most in common. For myself, I only have the following and would be willing to play in any of them though Tobruk is not high on my list.
Tobruk
Kharkov
Normandy
Korsun
Bulgd
Middle East
North German Plain

I voted for Karkov, but I can give you a list of the titles I have:
Smolensk
Normandy
Karkov
Tobru
I have:
Kharkov
France
Normandy
Sicily
Kursk
Rzhev
Korsun
El Alamein
In a couple of weeks I'm getting another Bulge '44. Not sure if I'll have it in my grubby little paws by the time the tournament starts.
Hummm not much interest yet. Will wait longer then.

I'm interested, but I'm a bit of a n00b :D
Plus I only have Sicily and El Alamein at present with time and money in short supply!

11 people already voted, it's not that bad for a mini-tournament... If we had 12 or 10, we could do a 2 or 3 phase knock-out competition, selecting a couple of scenarios from different Pz Campaigns games...
OK then, I'd like 12. Then we need to pick a game that as many players already own.

My preference go to:
NORMANDY 44
MARKET-GARDEN '44
I also have:
SMOLENSK 41
KHARKOV 42
TOBRUK 41
BULGE '44
KORSUN '44
KURSK '43
SICILY '43
Rzhev '42
Just an FYI to the section, but I have offered up a free copy of France '40 to the winner of this tournament.

Golly, I don't know if it would be fair to win a game in this tourney and in the Civil War tourney too.

Having just recieved MG '44, I guess I should really start learning the system and make France '40 my second game! :D
Is there a way in WARS to add a column to each players stats that would list the games that he's got? I saw something like that on one of the other ladders. It might come in handy when organizing a tournament.

Not sure. Let me ask the WARS experts.

Wow, thanks alot Rich. It's appreciated.
OK Guys, the voting hasn't solved my problem. I don't see a clear cut winner so.... I have a pretty good idea of who owns what so far. Seems Normandy is the most owned from the posts in this thread. I would still want at least, very least 10 players. So sound off if you are in for Normandy 44.
I am.

Darn,
I had a choice between MG44 and N44 when I bought my first PzC game. Looks like I'm out. :(
Hmmm.....maybe this is a good excuse to order N44?
But alas it wouldn't arrive in time.
On a side note I did 8 turns so far of the "2 Divs on Arnhem" scenario last night and find PzC very enjoyable.

Denis, if you say you will order the game then we can wait for you. If not and want to practice with MG44, then the next tournament can be Market-Garden. I am to plese....
BTW if you play the full campaign of MG as the Allies, you will see why 30 Corps had such a difficult time to go up the single highway.

Thanks for the offer Dan. However even if I order the game now it will still take up to 2 weeks to get to my door and I don't want to hold up everyone else. So just go on without me and I will catch the next tourny. Hopefully not too far from now.

Denis,
I don't know about everybody else, but I can wait a few weeks if it means we've got another player. I say go ahead and order, and let every one know when you get it in.

I've asked. They are looking at a way to do just that. Stay tuned.
I'm good to go with N44 and waiting too.
P.S. Danny, I'm going to be a little slow with the turns this week, little arnhemnette is due for delivery anytime now.....

Check to make sure I didn't forget anyone. I'll be editing the post when new players are added. One more and the tourney will be a done deal. Now this will be my first tournament organization so you'll have to bare with me. I was thinking of having a 2 or 3 scenario tourney, mirror play with different players for each game. Scenario will be about 20 turns or so, not too long and not too short. I'm open to suggestions Guys...
OK we are enough. The tourney is on. We will wait for Birdgunner to get his game then we will set a timeline.

Count me in. I have all the games. Which one we play doesn't matter.
Would like to get in on this but unfortunately only have Smolensk 41 at the present but have all three MC. Plan to pick up some other titles in the future but currently can only play if S41 is chosen. The addition of France 40 for the prize is a nice plus. :)

Looks like you have your 10, but if you need an alternate, I would like to throw my name in the hat. Unless you want to push it to 12, but clearly not expecting you to accomadate me as a late comer to the party, otherwise I will catch the next one.
Thanks,

When I signed up here "Al" was already taken so I had to use a more cryptic user name.
As for those "running German troops", they happen to belong to that little known, but infamous German LXXXVIII Corps "Wussland". Troops from this Corps were known for throwing stunning tea parties & wearing women's frilly underthings. You work with what you got.

Game On!!!!
Great news Denis. OK we are 12 players. It will be done this way:
2 scenarios, mirror play. Different players for each.
I will do the match-ups, and select the scenarios to play, but I am looking for some feedback on the scenarios, so let me know. Tentative start date: 14 May 2005. Someone think of a title for the first WHQ/ACG PzC tournament?

Took a quick peek at the scenario data at the Blitzkrieg site and Caumont Gap looked fairly balanced and short and Two Kinds of People also fit that description. Here is the link if you want to look it over.

Danny-
Any thought to which rules we are playing under or are we going with default rules? Also, are the mirror games played simultaneiously and can we play under the Save PBEM option? Just a couple of things to think about.
Thanks,
Dave
I know that for me, I like playing with 'PBEM No File Save' disabled. Invariably I get pulled away from a game for a work related issue or something that the wife needs. I'll play either way though. I'll just have to do my turns at dark :30 so I don't get bothered. Only problem with that is that I'm a little punchy and my tactics might suffer. My opponent might like that though... :D

OK so far this is the tournament:
It is called "Opening moves" (Joao Lima)
Prize: The winner will receive HPS PzC France 40, courtesy of Rich Hamilton (Rahamy). I am disqualifying myself from the prize (not that I anticipate winning the tournament  )
All players will be awarded a WARS medal for completing the tournament.
All games are to be reported to the WARS ladder as usual and when completing it, just to include it is a tournament scenario.
2 20 turns scenarios, mirror play.
Rules: see attached image for rules to be in effect. 'PBEM No File Save' disabled.
Scenarios: Fallschirmjager vs. Paratrooper scenario #7(1st round)
The bridgehead battle 6-7 Jun 1944 scenario #11 (2nd round)
Normandy 44 version 1.09, alternative art packs (optional but recommended)
Start date 1st round: 14 May 2005 end date: 30 June 2005
Start date 2nd round: 01 July 2005 end date: 30 August 2005
Longer period for the 2nd round to take into account summer vacation periods of players (like mine  )
House rules:
If unable to finish the scenario by the deadline, the game ends at the turn it is at.
When reporting your victory, please PM me your game score. I will use those numbers in case of a draw to declare the winner of the tournament.
Check back this post from time to time for updates.

Just my 0.02:
Everything looks good to me. Plenty of time to complete the scenarios and still have other games going. :)
Optional rules look good. I've played several games with this exact combo of optional rules, and I like 'em.
The only thing I have a question about is the prize. What if the winner already has France '40? I know several of the players do. My suggestion would be tht the prize would be the PzC game of your choice. If by some fluke I won - my opponent's computer melted or something - I could pick a game I didn't have. If that's not doable it's no biggie. I'm just looking forward to playing.
Woohoo! Can hardly wait for the tourney to start.
Q: I assume the scenario versions are the stock ones and not the _alt versions done by Vman?

Alright Guys, everything is setup for the tournament. Official start is the 14th so this saturday. You may contact your round 1 opponents to confirm each others PBEM email addresses. May the best general win, but above all: Have some fun. Hopefully we will attract more and more players to our ladder and the next tournament will be more numerous.

Probably due to the moving of the forums. Here I am reposting it. I also had omitted two other rules, but didn't think I should include them as they are standard, but to avoid any confusion here they are:
1. PBEM encryption = ON
2. Fog-of-war = ON.
