EB own a chain called simply "Game" over here - I wonder if the names of the shops will change.

Similar thing happened here Game used to be separately owned, and EB had their own stores. EB took over Game, but then closed down their EB stores and kepy the Game ones. You work out the logic, I can't...

They'll close EB, and move inventory to GameStop.

I was surprised that EB maintained any bricks and mortar stores, after they closed down their main stores and went to a clicks and mortar model. I guess the allure of mall rats spending their parents money was too much to pass up.

There's about a billion EB stores in my area (actually both my areas). It'll be interesting to see what happens to a lot of them now.

Are they 'all game' stores, or computer stores by you? When they had stores around me, other than their game stores in the malls, they sold mouse pads to PCs, and everything inbetween. I remember when they closed those stores down, the reason was they were going to go strictly online, to keep overhead down.

I expected that to happen in Colchester but it didn't. We now have two 'Game' shops in the town centre. Mind you I get a lot of my games s/hand from the local 'Gamestation' shop :D

Both reside in the mall near me. EB carries used PC games and GameStop doesn't just used consol games. So I wonder if GS wit put a stop to used pc games?

Granted I have not purchased one from them lately but hey you never know what you might find sometimes!

Gamestation are dead cheap - I got a load of brand new GameCube games from them for a tenner each, relatively new titles as well.

Everything around me is just game stores. They have at varying points carried some hardware, but generally a very limited variety of things, such as graphics cards and other more heavily game related things.

Around here, all there is is EB variants, or Futureshop or Best Bye.

I usually enjoy Futureshop or BestBuy more.

Might have something to do with how 95% of the time I go into an EB I look around, see the same ole crap I didn't want last time, then go look for a video.

Same here. There's a GameStop (Software Etc.) in the mall, and an EB Games right outside the mall.
BTW, my informant said they would keep the name as GameStop. I prefer that over EB Games.

I've seen several EBGames stores pop up recently as part of stripmalls. I've been in a few, and most of the games are crap. I'll take Wal-Mart over that, thank you very much.

Well, I like the ability to buy used games from EB and GameStop, normally they're much cheaper than the Brand-New version. Now there will only be one used-game-dealer.

No, but I do have an arm that enables for rapid assimilation of alien technology. Wait...come to think of it, I do have those tubes going into my head, it's just hard to tell since Lore doesn't doesn't allow us to have mirrors. :D

We are getting a a GameStop in the small town I live in which is surprising considering the Population of the 2 counties that surround the plaza it will go in are roughly 50,000 people together! I dont see how a computer game only store will compete with the likes of Wal Mart.

KG_Norad

Gamestop is actually more console oriented...at least the ones by me. Their PC games selection is pretty good too. If you buy used console games at Gamestop...Walmart can't compete. For new games though I am sure they can.

How comprehensive is the PC and video game section(s) of your Walmart? GameStop also sells used games, and rents consoles. Does Walmart do that?

No obviously Wal Mart does not do any "renting". But the do have a pretty comprehensive selection of PC and console games. And the local Chain video store sells their used console games. I'm not supporting Wal Mart, I just think its going to be tough in my little 1 horse town for a Game exclusive store to survive.
The "mall" is only 45 mins. away and it has EB, Gamestop and many other stores that sell games. But, I'm no marketing expert! So if they think the store will survive good luck. I will buy from them if they have the cheapest price!

Wow! A Wal-Mart with a comprehensice selection of PC games!
I'm not so sure about that, pal. The last time I was at the PC section at Wal-Mart (I was desperately looking for a copy of Combat Mission), they only had the new releases like Sims 2, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, etc. Just the mainstream stuff. I go to Best Buy when I want a PC Game, and even then they don't have Combat Mission or any Matrix, HPS, etc. games.
This brings to mind the GameStop store in the local mall, they named int Software Etc. Just recently, however, they replaced over half of the PC Games section with used Xbox games! WHA?!?! :surprise:

Cpt. Bonez..You can't find those games in any game store just about...I buy all my wargames on line for that very reason.

Granted Gamestop does have CMBO in the bargin bin but I have seen less and less of matrix games in the store. I actually bought UV from Comp USA. They also had CM but I doubt they do now.

Whats with the attitude bro? Unless you live in Point Pleasant, WV where I do who do you know whats in my local Wally World? It is unfortunate that they do have a large selection of games to chose from. Why? Because this will hurt the "competion" if you ask me. Wal Mart moves into small towns like mine and kills all small business. I am not going to debate you about this. But we West Virgianians have the distinction of a Wal Mart in every county! (lucky us! ) At least this was the wal mart plan a year ago.

20 Apr 05, 23:14
Sorry for the 'tude. It's just that the first place I look for video games is the BX. Wal-Mart is about the last place I go, if I'm really in need of a game.
However, I do agree with you, Wal-Mart does kill small shops. I remember I use to go to a card shop to get baseball and football cards, then a Wal-Mart rolled in and trampelled it.

No problem brother! :cheeky: Thats what I'm saying too. Damn Wal Mart kills everything! In a small town like mine nothing can survive. A friend of mine owned a thriving music store with 3 locations. Well he teaches school now thanks to Wally World

Good Point! Thats why I never buy CD's there. I remember a case localy some "parents" were suing Wal Mart because their daughter bought a CD with some "bad" language

My CDs usually don't carry the Explicit Content sticker, but even if they do, Wal-Mart probably doesn't carry it. Their CD section is almost as bad as their PC game section (sorry about the bashing). All I can find is the new rap crap and those horrible variety CDs. I get my tunes from Amazon.
