Smolensk 41

Hey
I'm looking to order this game as well as Tobruk. Thats the only titles missing from my collection. How do they compare to later Pz Campaigns?
Also I'm looking to order Proud and A few. I already have Pacific War any major differences between the two Squad Battles series?

Tobruk and Smolensk are very fluid, lot's of movements, tanks etc... To compare them to others, well HPS has patched them very well and are at par with the others. Smolensk specially has depth of movement, pincer movements etc... You'll enjoy both for sure.

Smolensk is my favourite but it is easily recognizable as the first PC. It has several problems and bears only a passing relationship to what happened.

However, the Micheal Avanzini work is fairly good. Download the xp2 pack and you will find the scenarios more in line with a more recent title.

Still leaves a lot to be desired in the historical accuracy category but not bad at all. Basically, Avanzini gives the Russians a look more appropriate to 1943 than 1941. Makes for more balanced play, but is a bit of a shock for the German player.

Tobruk is fun. There are remakes of the Tobruk campaign on Glenn's site which are loads of fun. Much better than the original, IMO, but if you are into El Alamein you will dig Tobruk as well.
