View Full Version : Weird mod? or virus/corrupted file?

Hey everyone. I have some questions here about a weird problem with west front.

I noticed on my West Front game, just very recently, something is very strange. On several places on the info box, there are new/strange icons I do not recognize. Some of them look "modded."

On many of the vehicles, a "trench" icon appears in the top left of the info box, along with icons I don't recognize. Many non-transport vehicles have loaded "helmet" icons, even though they aren't carrying anything. Also, many icons in the zoom-in 2d screen are incorrect, and in changing from 3d to 2d, the unit type changes (a marder 2d icon is a Sdkfz 7 in 3d, among other wierdness).

My guess is, I have some mod running that I'm not aware of. All I put into the folder for West Front is a whole truckload of mods. I didn't load any mods into WF (or so I thought?) because I worried it might make me incompatible for pbem.

So, has anyone else run into this? I very much want to remove this "mod" if possible, but I'm not sure what is causing this. There is a "night battles" mod in there, supposed to be for EF II. I wasnt sure if this was the culprit. :o

None of my other cs games are affected my this, including my DG-Vietnam mod.

Any help you guys can give would me would be most welcome! :)

P.S. New games and old (saved) games from way back are all affected by this bug/mod. It doesn't *seem* to affect actual gameplay though.

Hmm.

Is this for any WF scenario? Or just one?

First guess was that one of the scenarios you added, I presume, contains more than just the .scn, .map, .bmp and .org files.

An easy fix, possibly, would be to re-install the patch, if you're using one, to the West Front folder. This should possibly remedy the situation.

If not, removing the added files might have to be done.

We'll get this sorted out!

Take care and good luck

I never thought about reinstalling the patch; I will go do that now.

And, this affects ALL west front scenarios; my pbem game with soccerDJ, my new scenarios I just opened up (Hell's Highway) and my old save games that I started years ago.

There aren't any other mods running in WF, so this should correct the problem. I'll come right back after to let you know how it went. :nervous:

Another thing might be restarting your computer. Hell's Highway is a HUGE scenario and takes a lot of resources to run. With inadequate RAM some fancy graphic problems may be noted.

Ok, here's what I've learned. My WF game was unpatched, but patching it did not solve the problem (I used patch 1.03a). I rebooted, still no luck. However, I found the files that were apparently overwritten by the patch. They are called "icons1d, icons2d, icons3d, icons4d, and icons5d" and are in the WF folder (obviously). These are the files the game uses to determine what icons should be shown. I noticed immediately that these icon files had russian and german icons, but no west-front icons. Bingo.

My plan to fix it is to have someone e-mail the files. Then, I can simply place it into my game. That *should* work, but there may have been more file-overwrites going on behind the scenes. When I deleted the offending files, NO icons appeared in the info box.

My e-mail is: lamorak@bellsouth.net

Best case scenario is the computer "adopts" the original WF files, and it's smooth sailing. Otherwise, I will have to put all my saved games, patches, and recently dl'd scenarios into a new folder, re-install WF, then put all those saved games back into the new WF folder - a chore I'm not looking forward to.

Anyway, they are called "iconds1d, icons2d, icons3d, icons4d and icons5d, and if someone could e-mail it to me as an attachment, I *think* that may fix my game. Thanx guys!

It's fixed!!

I didn't install the most recent patch; v. 1.05 fixed it, also installed the battlepack and operation Sea Lion patches....anyway, thanks for all the help and ideas, Jason!

Ahh, good to hear! I should have mentioned the 1.05 patch, although I didn't realize the 1.03a was still around to be downloaded!

Glad to hear it's all working!
