Double Deuce

Ok everyone. I thought I would take a poll and see who is playing what versions of Steel Panthers here. This includes what you have loaded on your PC and would like to be playing more of.
The poll allows multiple choices so please select all that apply. Also, feel free to post any comments you have relating to each game.
Note: I have the poll set to show everyones votes so I can get an idea of who is playing what (for future Combat Campaign recruiting). :D

SPWaW. I have SPMBT and SPWW2 around but haven't played them in a while...would love a new SPMBT using the engine of SPWaW to play Vietnam era stuff :smoke:

To add my 2 cents in.
While I do have all 4 loaded onto my PC I do not get to play any of them very often because of my involvement in the Combat Campaigns. Mostly its a small battle here and there against the AI. I do however spend a lot of time using the games, in particular the scenario editors for SPMBT and SPWAW. Wish I had more time to design some regular campaigns for them especially SPMBT which seriously lacks coverage in that area IMHO.
I play all those, with the exception of Steel panthers 3.
I used to play alot of SPWAW, but recently find myself playing SPMBT and a bit of SPWW2. Would like to play SPWAW and SPWW2 more, but I`m really enjoying the modern era that SPMBT offers.

What? SPWAW engine is a Matrix product. They began development in 2000 of Steel Panthers:Modern Warfare (SPWAW Modern),but quickly cancelled it saying it was to much bother.
The new windows versions of SPMBT and SPWW2 should finally eclipse SPWAW,though it does have TCP-IP.

I only voted for SPMBT. It is all I have on my hard disk since installing a new one. Before I had SP3-modified,SP3 Online,SPWAW 8.30,and SPWW2,but they got very little action so I didnt bother reinstalling them.

Both SPMBT and SPWAW have their own merits BUT if there was a way to combine the best of both developent that would be ideal.

Yes thats what Steel Panthers-Modern Warfare would have been 1950-2010.
Oh you mean SPMBT engine + SPWAW engine?
That wouldnt be possible because the two parties (CAMO and Matrix) both were awarded differnt versions of the SP code they (SSI)made.
I would have been happy with a choice of SPMBT and SPMW
SPWAW does have some cool built in features, its a shame only WW2 is availible.

I checked all 4, heck I love Steel Panthers.
The one I have the most trouble playing is SP3, but I think that's because it has remained the most under modified since it was released.
The software is just the most "problematic" for me with Windows and hardware.
Given a choice, I would liklely play a lot more SP3 if that option was open.
Sure would be nice if SP Camo could revamp it to like modern OSs more. But to my knowledge, SP3 has never been on the free download circuit.

Aries when you play SPWAW you are playing a highly modified SP3.
I may never forgive Matrix for dropping the ball on SP-Modern Warfare. It would have completed the MOD so to speak, now all the WW2 gamers get an expansive game with tons of support and us Modern warfare folk get nada.
What I know of ripping into the guts of the software wouldn't interest anyone.
I am aware they used the SP3 software to build their SPWaW game, after that I gets kinda fuzzy on details.
The gist of it seems the modern weapons ratings.
Me, I just want original SP3, no screwing with it, no opinion driven 5 year ordeal to get it "correct". I just want the game made so I can pop in the cd, install and then play it on my XP using computer, without a need to then start downloading specific programs to fix the gitches.
SP3 is a fun looking scale, and the original release had WW2 through to modern. It really does what we all want. It just doesn't like our modern computers much.

It's simple really. They would have had to make SP-Modern Warfare from the ground up.They thought they could just add it to what they allready did,so rather than rebuild it again they dropped the ball, saying combat leader was the future, lol. That was 5 years ago. As you can probbaly tell,I'm not a big Matrix fan right now. :alien:

It just doesn't like our modern computers much.Same issues as many have with SPMBT and SPWW2 due to the DOS environment. It's kind of hit or miss to get it to work. Fortunately all SP versions seem to work OK on my XP machine. :D

I definately like SPMBT most, though I have terrible problems runiing it on my personal machine under winXP.
I simply can't wait for winMBT which is more likely to run and has the same concept.

SPMBTWin - is that an XP version of SPMBT?Not so much an XP version BUT one that is now a resident windows program instead of DOS.
I mostly play Spwaw ver 8+ and the H2Hfr mod. However I did play Spmbt on my old comp some years back and would LOVE to play it on my present machine (it's el cheapo onboard video processor does not recognize vesa graphics).
I fervently hope that the windows SPMBT port corrects this. If it does, I'll be pbem'ing it like a demon! :cheeky:

Yes Secret Agent, the new WinSPMBT will work under XP and its free. But its still 2-4 months to go until the first version is released.

Yaaaaaaaaaay! Wait - I just bought a computer with Win95 so I could use SPMBT. :argh: :D
Does anyone know if the graphics will be clearer?

Yes graphics will be better,it will use some of Direct X's features, and will have multiple resolutions.

I could never come to terms with WaW, possibly because of the SP3 engine. For me, the resolution is too small, I dont like to move around complete platoons.
SPMBT/SPWW2 are good, but they dont play well on my laptop. So I am awaiting WinSPMBT/WinSPWW2.
Needs another box " Waiting for Winspmbt"
