View Full Version : My Second Game Idea

Okay, this another of the ideas bouncing around inside my head. It's an alternate American Civil War, where Gettysburg and several other battle were even more devastating, forcing the Union and the Confederacy to call a cease-fire. It's now around 1880-1890, and the cease-fire is starting to break down. You play as several different characters on different sides. Now, repeating weapons are being introduced on a wide scale, and you can even use slight variants on historical weaponry. The game can be played in either first- or third-person, and involves shooting, stealth, and investigations.

Whadaya think?

Hmmm...could be interesting. Would your character(s) be flitting in and out of major engagements or just skirting around the general happenings? The war could end up like WWI - both sides hiding in Trenches, perhaps the Europeans would get involved and instead of all the fighting in France, it would be in the US.

Sorry, Bariman but it sounds pretty lame.

I'm interested in your notions of who are the historical leaders who made it through the war alive.

Jefferson Davis and Abraham Lincoln of course (Booth was too busy acting to kill Lincoln; the war was "over" anyway). According to the mag, Custer led a calvary brigade against Stuart near Gettysburg. He did it in this alternatin ACW, but it was much less victorious this time around; Custer was wounded in battle, maybe even losing a limb. He was still considered a hero of the battle, though. I'm open to suggestions about other commanders, too.

Why, no machine guns, BFG 3000s, zombies, or headcrabs?

I think there would either be multiple characters, or one character taking jobs by the highest payment (or a combo of both). If there are multiple characters, one could be a soldier, which can introduce squad-based gameplay. This could be one of the major engagements.

Other characters would be skirting the edges, effecting the overall theatre. I'm thinking England, Spain, France, Prussia/Germany, and Russia. Maybe Mexico too.

Some of the missions I'm thinking about would include typical spy stuff, like stealing weapons designs, acting as a courier for top secret messages, and the like. Some of the other serious things would be assasination missions.

Sounds like it could make an interesting FPS. Perhaps using some of the F&M tactics generally gain by introducing repeating weapons? :)

I would say that my main worry is that you make it sound like a lot of the game will be based on single person or small unit actions but even by that time period such things would be extremely limited. To me, it would be like Call of Duty (I haven't played Brothers in Arms so I can't comment there) where you seem to single-handedly hold off a German offensive, except on an even more unrealistic scale.

As soon as you think up a horror game concept, I'll be there to help flesh it out and maybe even code. ;)
