View Full Version : Tourney?

In the interest of increasing the game traffic in our section I'd like to know how many people would be interested in participating in a tournament using the Campaign Gettysburg engine from HPS and a custom scenario designed by myself?

--------------

Since the initial respondants all said later, I'll wait for you guys to prod me for something like this.

--------------

Ok, since we now have some interest how about this. I'll put together a custom scenario over the next few weeks and then look at kicking off a tourney, even if it's a small one, by the end of April or so. Maybe we'll have a bit more interest by then as well.

Stay tuned!

I'm ready when you are ... tourney of two I guess is a small tourney!

How about a game in the mean time then Sir? Something on the smaller size so it can move along quickly?

I need some ramp up time for learning the game, but I would be interested.

I am down. Still pretty new to the game, but baptism by fire is the best way to learn, me thinks.

Guys,

I've just about got the scenario done for this so will probably look to kick things off by May 1st. Does that give everyone time who wants to participate to clear their plate a bit?

The scenario will be about 30 turns with moderate sized forces. Not too small, but no full battle either, ala Gettysburg.

Rich

That works well for me. I found in the past that 30 turns is a wee bit long a tourney game (as far as the games finishing close together) but I'm game.

Rich - what would you think about a quick mini-tourney using a small CG scenario? We could do something like Oak Hill, then Opening Fight, with mirrored games in a swiss style tournament, ie you and I would play two games against each other. The person with the highest total score would be declared the winner in our match.

1 point for a win, 0 points for a loss, 0.5 for a draw.

After the initial round of play, players are paired according to their points total in the tournament to date with the objective of pairing players with equal points. Each player continues to play in each round.

With the number of players we have currently, we could probably knock out this mini in no time.

Hey Brent,

I guess we could, if enough guys are interested. Personally I don't really enjoy the super short scenarios...not much to them, but hey, I'm willing if it will help liven things up here! :smoke:

Well, May is almost here so we should probably wait for your scenario. I'm excited to see it!

Gents,

I'm moving towards the kick off point of this event. One thing I wanted to mention is that the overall winner will get their choice of a copy of Campaign Ozark or Campaign Franklin...and if they have both we can talk about that then. :smoke:

Also, this is shaping up to be a 3 tiered tourney, mirrored. Starting off with a very small engagement, then one a little larger, then larger still. However the largest one will not be full-battle size ala Gettysburg. So it shouldn't be a huge commitment. It will also be a "mirrored" tournament, but rather than playing both scenarios at the same time, we will play the first, switch sides then play the second. This should reduce the time commitment per game. I want people to have fun, nut be burdened trying to add 2 more games to their immediate play list.

So, if you have friends that might want to participate please round them up. We will be using Campaign Gettysburg for the entire event.

Post questions here or ask me directly.

Regards,
Rich

Sign me up! By "mirrored", does that mean if you and I were opponents for the first small scenario, we'd play the first game, then switch sides and play the small scenario again against each other?

I'll prepare my boys too :salute:

Although more details are needed especially how much time we get to finish a round.

PS. I like "smilies" you have at WHQ :violin:

Yes, we'd play the first scenario twice against each other. Then we'd adjust pairings based on the scoring of the first round to try and even things up as best as possible.

Hi Pit,

Not 100% sure what youa re asking, but the only requirements to participate are that:

a) You are a member of the ladder, which you are

b) You own a copy of Campaign Gettysburg from HPS, which you do

So I think youa re ready to play if you want to!

Rich

I'm a very relaxed player...I'm more concerned with people having fun then adhearing to a tight time table. I think on average we will allot 1 week per 2 turns for each scenario. So, the first scenario has 6 turns, so to enable each of the teams to play it twice we will allocate 6 weeks for everyone to complete it.

With that said though, the first one is very small (a modified version of Oak Hill) so I doubt it will take more than a week to play each game. So, we'd move on to round 2 when everyone completed their matches. 6 weeks tops, but could be as soon as 2 or 3.

Ok guys,

I just started up the last pairing, so that gives us 22 participants. I'm officially "closing the tournament at this point to any new people. We should all be able to wrap up matches in a reasonable amount of time and start on the same footing for round 2.

Good luck to all!!
