Is this to get to a bigger market if it happens?
I really don't tink so. Most of the regulars at Matrix I am sure already know about Harpoon. Matrix's rep may mean some of those guys will buy it, but Harpoon is still pretty much for the hardcore wargamer. What it may do is open Harpoon up for more expansion with new battlesets and offical database support.
By Matrix games. With updates.
"Sources close to the matter have revealed to The Wargamer that Advanced Gaming Systems' Harpoon line of products will be re-published by Matrix Games. Two of the classic naval simulation games will be re-released: Harpoon Classic will be renamed Harpoon – Commander’s Edition and will feature improved AI and database elements. It is unclear how this game is related to the "Harpoon Classic 2005" game mentioned on the AGS web site. The more recent Harpoon 3 will be published by Matrix Games as Harpoon 3 Advanced Naval Warfare, updated with multiplayer functionality.
The Harpoon series, established by author Larry Bond, who colloborated on a number of popular technothrillers with Tom Clancy. The series first hit the PC in 1989 with Harpoon Classic, which was followed by the MS-DOS Harpoon II in 1994 and Harpoon 3 in 2002, although the final game was actually released through community support and not by a major game developer. The original Harpoon Classic is the game which helped to garner the most fame for the game on the PC, as it was re-issued in several iterations over the course of a decade, including releases such as Harpoon Classic for Windows 3.1, Interactive Magic's Harpoon '97, and finally the Harpoon Classic 2002. The most recent edition of the game, Harpoon 4, was canned by Ubisoft after lengthy development efforts by the Romanian team which recently put out Silent Hunter III. Development efforts have continued by AGS, who owns the license to the games.
The Wargamer will have further details on this new development in the Harpoon series in the weeks ahead."

hmmm, so Matrix is paying for Multiplayer?
and I hope they won't be charging full price for HC2005, if it's just the updates in the beta thus far.
I'd *much* rather give my hard earned directly to AGSI, and not worry about the Matrix middleman.
(Not to denigrate Matrix, but my past experiences with them have led me to avoid their "services" if at all possible - that is my personal opinion and by no means is it meant to influence anyone.)
