Hey Herc,

Hard to walk away from the game, isn't it

According the to forum, Norad is listed as the moderator. I, however, have not seen him post in quite some time.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike

Your telling me. I haven't really played and I am waiting for another patch and will go from there.

I really want this game to work for the community and am wondering if maybe we had more of a driving force here we couldn't help that goal. Maybe if we could beta test the game correctly, having structed goals and such we could help Scott finally nail it down.

As it is now we and Scott are running all over the place. He adds or fixes one thing and breaks others. One person is interested in one feature while someone is interested in another. Some planning and organizing could go a long way to effectivally put this game on its feet.

Then maybe POA3 could be used as a driving force for additions. I really don't see how we can really ask to get more added to this version. I would still like other seasons added, better graphics and some other features but Scott has to make a living to.

But first we have to get POA2 to work, and work correctly. I do not know if POA2 will ever become anything more than a few people tinkering with, but I guess if we don't try we will never know.

Regards

I for one would gladly volunteer for STRUCTURED beta testing.

Gentlemen,

This thread in Combat Mission might explain Norad's absence.

Well let's do it, and I see three ways to do it:

I think one thing we could do is get a list of bugs. Once we have this list we need to have someone who can make scenarios that would test the bugs. Once this is documentated the information could be forwarded to Scott.

Another would be to list all the game features. Group the ones that make sense and run scenarios testing just those features. Making notes of downright bugs and or gameplay issues.

We offer these 2 proposals (Or a variation of them) to Scott and explain how we would like to help get POA2 on its feet. The idea here would be to get Scott to come up with a structured Beta testing that he would run.

Ideas?

OK Herc,

I'm not sure how to do this efficiently but it seems to me it must needs be a coordinated effort. Why don't you shoot the idea past Scott's bow and see what he has to say about it. Without his official sanction it's pointless. Does he have a beta team now?? Who's working on it?? How many?? What type of PCs are they running?? Is testing primarily AI or PBEM?? I really don't know what I'm talking about but these are all questions floating around in my head. I think a Beta team needs to fully test a given patch and report it's findings. Then Scott needs to correct the problems the team reported SANS any stinking improvments. Then let the team re-test till everything is nailed down. Then and only then he should add something new at which time the process should be repeated for as long as it takes to get this thing working.

Last time I played the game it was working fairly well except that it takes way to long for AI thinking on my 2.26 ghz, 512 mb machine. So for me small scenarios are best. Also, like I said the scenario editor doesn't work worth the proverbial. Crashes 100% each and every time I try it out.

I did start a few pbem with Tiberius and they were a blast. This game will no doubt shine in pbem play.

I'll second that motion...

Like others, I believe a structured Beta program would provide real benefit to POA2's future development. I would happily volunteer my (rather limited) services and knowledge to the effort.

Herc, please float your suggestions past Scott and let us know what he thinks.

RedMike, have you tried the scenario editor with the latest beta build (215). I have found it to be much more stable and functional in this patch. I have been able to create a half dozen or so test scenarios without encountering any C++ exceptions or system crashes.

Thanks,
Mike

I PM'ed Don on the issue of the moderator\section leader. I do not know what has gone on between Norad and Don. I have tried walking away and look at where I am again :cheeky:

Even if nothing changes with regards to who is running this section if we stay active maybe we don't need another. Besides getting Scott to do a structered Beta us coming here and discussing the game is what is going to make it work.

And not only discuss bugs and what doesn't work. Discussing how we use the game will be of great benefit. Making and or playing existing scenarios and then discussing how we tried to complete the objectives I think will help people understand the game much better. I think we will find for everyone who plays a scenario a different approach to it. And then trying each others suggestions will either make it more clear, help define bugs, and help define suggestions to Scott to improve how the game works to totally change something to making it more intuitive.

So I make the commitment to improve POA2 and to stick with it. One way or another this community can make a positive difference.

Did you get my PM?

Give me a couple of days to get back to you. I'm supposed to be out of town until mid-week, but I came down with the flu so I've delayed my departure until tomorrow.

Hi guys. Just wanted to let you know that I have not been intentionally ignoring this forum. Originally I was section leader of the ATF section when that was the only modern game here. Don then added Tacops, Decisive Action, and POA-2. I then retired from the section and began as section leader for CM.

I have since had to really retire from that too due to real life responsibilities. Now I just hang out, give input & moderate now and then.

I do not own POA-2. My moderation rights on this forum are just a hold out from my ATF days. Sorry you guys got stuck with a person who really can't contribute to the section! Hopefully Don will promote one of you forum regulars to the position but I have no idea what his future plans are.

Hope this clarifies things a bit!

I have been busy have of late and haven't been around much. Don hasn't replied to threads on this subject in a while nor did he ever contact me on my PM's.

Oh well, hopefully POA2 will push on by the sheer determination of the ones that seem to keep coming back.
