Greeting everyone!

My name is John (duh) and I must say I'm glad to see an active CS community on the 'net. I wasn't sure this place even existed a short time ago.

I have been playing wargames for over 20 years. I started with the Avalon Hills Panzerblitz/Panzer Leader series, and picked up the campaign series about five years ago and I've been playing it ever since. It is one of the few types of games that has held my attention for so long. Recently, I've begun to dabble into making my own scenarios.

I have noticed a name or two on the scenario list that also posts here, like Jason Petho - he makes some damn hard scenarios indeed.

I am considering downloading the campaign series mods (like that vietnam one) and a whole halftrack-load of new scenarios that I have found links to - by trolling this board. Has anyone had any problems with them? Anything specific to recommend? (I got burned with some mods for another game damaging my install, so I am hesitant to install mods lately)

Anyway, nice to see there is a place us wargamers can go to. :cheeky: :)

P.S. I've never done pbem before so it will take a bit more trolling to find out how to do this...ya, I'm a computer newbie.

Glad to find another one out there that is hooked in to the CS like myself. What a refreshing thing to see the name Panzer blitz and Panzer Leader mentioned in a post, but alas you forgot AIW lol. Cograts on joining the forum and yes Jason is the resident expert on most things associated with the CS, and his scenaios are not only hard but at times impossible. I tried to download the Vietnam mod for the Arab Isreali game of the CS series but had a heck of time getting it to run so unistalled it, but almsot everything else has worked just fine.

again congrats

Welcome John...

I haven't had any problems with the mods I've installed so far, except one for EF that changed the unit colours for each country. I found almost everyone was in red. But that was minor. I do enjoy the sound mods I found somewhere...I just can't remember where.

I find the best so far was installing the PB#1 disk. It gives a nice touch to the unit bases.

PBEM is a cinche. Just let me know, or post a question in the forum if you want to get started. There is a section at the top to post an ad when looking for an opponent.

Goos luck, and I hope to see more of you around here.

Cheers,
Ray

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. ;)

jesdazone, I picked up AIW around 1987-ish, and found it to be an excellent wargame. A few months back, I created a very large scenario for my favorite AIW scenario "Fayid" in which (as you know) the large Israeli armored contingent fights its way out of the bridgehead/Suez canal crossing area to the areas beyond. In my Divided Ground scenario, "Fayid" is about 140x170 hexes, and is based VERY closely on actual encarta map data of the area. It took me a month to finish that map, but it's a masterpiece. :D

The scenario itself is something I'm still playtesting, but needless to say, sems pretty balanced so far. My next project is "Deversoir," another Suez crossing battle, and a big one. Eventually, I would like to take on the task of creating a campaign...with the Italians as the force you play. (I like being the underdog)

I am glad to hear there have been no problems with the mods. I run windows 98se, so installing EF II/WF was a real pain - something I would have to go through all over again if a mod damaged my install(s). I'm gonna have to see about downloading them this weekend.

I found this forum quite by accident - I was hunting for mods for my favorite game (you know the one ;) ) at the wargamer.com, and some links pointed me to here. From here, I eventually found a number of links to CS mod sites.

I'm happy to see many here feel the same way about rts games. Yes, I also went the Warcraft/Starcraft/Age of Empires route before realizing why my win/loss record was so poor; those games really ARE click-fests. I would probably still play them if my opponents would tone the game speed down, but they always turn it up to teenager-on-crystal-meth speed. Oh well.

I need to study the EFII booklet to learn about pbem; it shouldn't take me long to get the hang of it. I am looking forward to see if constant me-vs-AI combat has left me prepared for battle with you folks.

P.S. Almost forgot; how do you fire starbursts/starshell flares? I don't see it anywhere in the manual and the help wizard is, well, not helpful.

Alt + Shift in Fire Mode from an artillery unit capable of firing starshells.

Take care and good luck

Hey Barcelona...you play Fallout recently?

Your sig pic is the power armor from that game - which was just rated in the top 10 of all pc games by PC gamer mag. (it's an awesome game, just too darn short!)

Yes it is!!! I've got FO1 and FO2 love them both like sons... even though I'm too young for that... but I love them... Too short... tons of replayability.

Hi chaps,

Just a quick message to say hello. Like John Givan, I'm new to this sclub, and am just putting my head above the parapite for the first time. I have corresponded with Jason Petho on a number of occasions in the past, but had no idea he was part of this club. :)

I don't have any particular item to bring to mind this time, only to say I've been a big fan of the Campaign Series since Erwin Rommel told me about it !

Oh, does anyone know where I can get hold of a copy of Sea Lion...? Not managed to do so as yet, and am holding back on buying Europe In Flames just for the Sea Lion disc.

Cheers, and congrat's on running such a good club. Now I've found it I'll be a regular viewer of the topics.

Howdy and welcome to the club its always great to see new members joining I hope you signed up on the WARS ladder and hopefully we will see you asking for opponents in no time. As for Operation Sea Lion I've only ever seen it in the Europe in Flames pack... but then again I could be wrong.
