It is late in the day on July 1st and I am starting to build Breastworks in several positions around Gettysburg. My problem is that there doesn't seem to be any indication or notice in the Unit box once Breastworks have been established.

When I first select a unit to build breastworks, an "Entrenching" message appears in the unit box. But once the entrenchment has been successful there doesn't seem to be any indication in the unit box that said unit is now successfully "entrenched". The only way to tell if a unit is behind breastworks is to attempt to build them again and only then does the message appear "Breastworks already exist on the facing side".

When building Breastworks with numerous units, its aggravating to have to go thropugh the whole "building Breastworks" dialogue only to find out that the unit has already built them.

Am I doing something wrong?

Theres also a visual indicator on the map, in the hex. Might only be in 3D, but there is one...

I think once the breastwork is built it applies to the hex, not the unit, so nothing shows for the unit. If you right click on the hex indicator, does it show the breastworks?

The units that have completed building breastworks will show up in the command report you receive at the start of every turn. There is also a breastwork symbol parallel to the hexside on the map.

Thanks for all the quick replies gentlemen...

Rich...I only ever play in 2D...but now that I know what to look for there does seem to be a thin black line on the improved hexside even in 2D. Very subtle, but you're right, it is there if you look hard.

Brent...good point, the Breastworks are part of the hex, not the unit. But no, if I right click on the hex box it does not show any Breastworks. I presume that even if the unit moves away the Breastworks stay there for the duration of the game?

Mark...yes, I saw the notice in the command report, but when I'm entrenching numerous units its difficult to remember just which ones have so far been successful. (the memory isn't what it used to be :hmmm: ) And yes, now that I know what to look for I see the thin black line on the entrenched hexside.

Thanks guys!

Your welcome and yes, breastworks do stay in place for the duration of the game.
