I and an opponent would like to play a modern era game. I am looking for recommendations on the best warsaw pact/ nato scenarios. thanks for your thoughts! :D
I always enjoyed the Third World War by Trey Marshall. there are several variants. One covering all of Europe and the Middle East.
There is a Persian Gulf variant which is pretty good and a European theater only variant.

I really like NATO vs. WP scenarios. It was the great war that thankfully never was. But the dicey thing with these scenarios is balance. Many are just a total NATO cakewalk.
I think that two pretty balanced ones are Red Thunder 88 and The Next War (the Bob Cross version). There are two versions of Bob's The Next War out there, one that starts with a cease-fire and one without.
There's a scenario out there called, IIRC, Ukraine 2006. Played it hotseat for 5 turns or so.
It pits NATO & the Ukraine against a modern rejuvenated Russia. NATO has to break through Russian lines to rescue Ukraine.

Nato vs. WP 62 was enjoyable when I played it several months ago. Did an AAR on it... :cheeky:

I know an Ukraine 2006 too. I tried a TOAW II version. Is there a COW version ?
I played only first turns against PO, it seems interesting, and worth a try. There are not many NATO units, the Russians may have a chance.

If you are interested in playtesting I have a large division/bde level WWIII scenario that I'd like an unbiased opinion on it.
It covers Europe and the Middle East (20 km/hex) and the map is split with a Pacific Theater on the side (Korea and Japan).
If you are interested send me an e-mail I can send you the player briefing and/or the scenario.

Speaking of which, what's the eta on the 4th beta? I got bored enough to start annother hotseat with pact chem weapons, but while nato lines are faltering, it doesn't look like it'll be enough to break through.
Thanks for your interest Dan. You have been a remarkable playetster and I did not want to bother you again with even more testing :)
To answer your question: I implemented most of your suggestions: I reworked the map, added an option for a sudden attack on Turn 1 (in addition to some other changes) to allow the Pact to achieve a quick breakthrough. I have a new version and new briefing if you are interested. I'd be happy to send it your way
I'd like to have a peek at that as well, LOK, if you don't mind. You had sent me a previous version as well, but I'd see what it's like now that you've changed a bunch of things.

Yeah send it my way. I like larger scenarios (even if DNO and GIO are big enough to intimdate me from starting) and none of the ww3 scenarios I've seen so far really fit the bill as to what I wanted to play.
That whole paragraph echoes my sentiments to a T.
