View Full Version : PzC sound problem
Gents, I experience, although not too often, the sounds of combat seem to enter a loop and don't stop. In other words, the first attack sounds will keep playing and playing and playing. The only way to stop it is to exit the game and return to it. Doesn't happen often, but once in a while. My sound card is Creative Labs Live 5.1 with Windows XP pro, 512M RAM. Anybody else have this occurrence?
I've had it happen a few times myself. It has happened while playing NGP more than any other game. Not sure if that matters, but who knows. It doesn't happen often, but on a PBEM game with 'PBEM no file save' selected, it can be irritating.
Teah, I have had it in France '4o, Bulge and Gettysburg. Really quite annoying when you have a king hell subwoofer like I do.
Glenn or Rich, has this been reported to HPS support in the past?

I suspect it has and Tech support might have something intellegent to add.
Please keep in mind however that it is not GAME code that does this - rather it is the Game code which calls the Microsift DirectX Code which interacts with the Soundcard and drivers.
Truth be told, it happened to me the first time ever just last night. As for preceptiosn of it happening in one game and not others, that is purely dumb luck - the base code for all the PzC and MC games is the same, certainly with respects to playing sounds and sending the message to play to the Hardware. Hope you don't think I am trying to cop out here, and maybe Tech Support can do some kind of a TECH solution, but it won't be in game code or updates.

There's a few different things that can be tried here, of varying complexity:
1) Update your sound card drivers.
2) Reduce the "Hardware Acceleration" setting for your sound card
3) If neither of the other two solve the problem you can investigate your system resources. I've had it reported before that a sound card was sharing the resources on a guys system with his hard drive controller. He moved his sound card to a new PCI slot that didn't share any resources and his problems went away for good.
Since all of HPS' games are windowed, my quick fix is to mute my volume conrol, finish a turn, save, quit and go back. It's never has happened two sessions in a row.
It doesn't happen too often to me either, but seems randomly and in different games. I've got about 10 HPS titles loaded on my HDD right now and seems to be happening at random. I'll try the procedures suggested by Rahamy.
