View Full Version : Seeking Opponent
I'm fairly new to ACOW via pbem, but am seeking an opponent who would also be interested in doing an AAR on the game. Operation Blau is probably about the largest I can handle, feel free to suggest a few games you would like. I can do at least 4 turns a week, heavier toward Fri - Mon, than Tue - Thu.

Hi, seems I will be rather empty for a while. Mind picking up a game with me? Please just let me know which scenario you'd like to play. Personally I prefer WWII ones.
You have a reputation for being a heavy hitter -- would offer options of Smolensk 41, Army Group North, Olympic or Invasion America -- your choice of scenario and side. I can be e-mailed at Mark@ILLUMIN-8.net or yazidee@aol.com...I may be using the latter for sending, but either will get to me. Thanks for responding...this should be an educational experience!

where did I get that reputation? :D anyway, I took it as a compliment, thx :P
I do not have invasion America. I took a look at the other 3 you suggested: Olympic seems too big. AG_North, I was discussing it with Paulus, but I believe it is heavily biased towards Axis favor, i.e., basically no chance for the Soviets at all. For Smolensk 41, I did not know it, but I thought it was interesting for Axis to attack with such a small force at the begining. But as I spent a little time exploring the scenario, I found a rediculous way for the Soviet to buy a OV without any efforts indeed (if you are interested, I can tell you by email, not sure if others will hate me to spoil their fun, if anyone still likes that one. well, I do not who designed this piece of crap though :D ) But if you are really new, I suggest you take the Axis side of AG_north and I will have to try to struggle with the stupid soviets. er.. maybe not too much fun like that if you have been slightly more experienced :D, here are some shorter ones, usually within 20 turns, if you'd like to try them out:
If you are more experienced, I would suggest Crusader 41 or Kharkov 42, as these are more balanced (slightly favors the Allies), and I had far more experiences on these scenarios.
And Market-Garden44 --- I lost this one before, and will like to try it again if you'd like to try too :) (slightly longer, 22 or something ..)
I think I'm up for Market Garden as Axis -- have an exam today so won't be able to get a turn in until tomorrow. I'll have another look at Smolensk to see what the Soviet situation is.

You sure you wanna be Axis? I lost as Axis last time! But I agree it is tough for both sides in this game though, it is pretty balanced, I lost also mainly due to my own stupidity and ignorance :D .... Anyway, I do not mind much, as long as you feel comfortable. :) So I will email you my first turn as Allies, once you confirm your decision ----- my email is XLiu844834@aol.com
thx
No don't pick the Axis!!!! LOL Currently Dagger 5 is doing this  all over my vaunted German Army. I told him he must start playing his role like in the movie and lose, but to no avail. :)

good luck to your popester, Axis soldier!
hehe... but .. .hard to beat him though...
Hiya,
Are you looking for another game? If so, might I suggest Decision in the North from the design group website. If you interested, email jason.r@clear.net.nz

Yes...ER-Chaser -- I"ll give it a go as Axis for Market Garden -- it's the only way to learn.
Raver -- select the side you want for AG North.
Mainly interested in learning and getting exposure to something other than the PO.
Lookin' forward to gamin!

best to e-mail me at yazidee@aol.com for now. Thanks!

For you Market-Garden fans, there is a slightly larger version of the scenario that covers more ground...but I think offers a much better balance than the one on the CD. It is called "Five Weeks in '44" and is a 35 turn version of Trey Marshall's 98 turn scenario. [not sure if Trey sanctioned this now that I think about it]. I just started playing as the allies and seems to offer more enjoyment for both sides. As we are only on turn 7 I cannot say what the expected outcome might be. Certainly better odds for the Germans than Market-Garden however. :clown:

Mark,
I was actually talking about Decision in the North, which I think covers basically the same campaign as AG North, but is a larger game and more balanced. Its about 80 turns, and quite a large map, so have a look at it first to make sure its not too overwhelming for you.
I am quite keen to have a go as Axis as I am currently in turn 20 of a game as Russians.
Let me know,
Jason

HEAT, got it ! Thank you. But I did not have time to look at it yet, will do when I get back home this evening.
Thanks for passing along "5 Weeks in Normandy" (Siberian Heat & ER_Chaser) -- looked at the Axis side briefly and feel like it should be fun and interesting to play from that perspective. Didn't examine allied forces, know the historical major components. Axis OOB -- I'd have to describe it as "entertaining" though probably quite near to historical. It's large/long enough that a single major error won't be cataclysmic for either side.
Jason -- yes, I meant Decision in the North...sorry for the confusion, it's larger and looks interesting, though as the Soviet I expect to lose my shorts and lunch money the first couple of weeks. The good thing about playing the Soviets is that there are usually more Soviets than German bullets....The true basis of strategy...(NOT!)
