View Full Version : SPMBT Section?

I'm wondering if the SPMBT section is going to get going here as well?
Even though the CAMO team coders arent giving a thought to having Win SPMBT online compatible,it is still the best modern steel panthers game in exsistance.
If you combine the new windows graphics(WinSPMBT) with the game SPMBT 3.01 that allready exsists, you have a whopper of a modern combat game. 1950-2020 :toast:
The thread about SP3 got me thinking ,should not SPMBT come first? :blab:

I'm wondering if the SPMBT section is going to get going here as well?In what way? SPMBT is already incorporated into the SP ladder and there is currently a Combat Campaign going on with another in the works.
The thread about SP3 got me thinking ,should not SPMBT come first? :blab:SPMBT definately comes before SP3. The SP3 thread was to gauge if there was any interest to consider it being supported in any way here.

Maybe you should just delete this post as you are obsolutely correct. It does bring up a good point though. If SPWW2 and SPMBT go Windows then do they need to move up in the pecking order over SPWAW? I think SPMBT would have a very large following if they can get away from the DOS issues. I know many who don't play just because of the headaches of getting it to run on their XP PC's.
Once the SPMBT - Island Civil War is concluded and I open the secures areas up to the public I think interest will increase considerably. It will be easier to let people see "what" is going on here. Right now they don't see much activity because everyone is behind the scenes in the secure areas BUT there are over 1600 posts there alone that no one knows about!

Yes very good point there,
I believe that WinWW2 and WinSPMBT would move them up above the single SPWAW game, even though SPWAW has online mode.
SPWAW would have very little on those games.
They will be completely windows friendly like SPWAW.
The graphics will be at least as good as SPWAW,maybe better.
The terrain is better than SPWAW.
The two games will cover way more years and countries than SPWAW.
The unit icons are bigger and more detailed than SPWAW

:) Helo Skirmisher and Double D.
I vote:
SPMBT [1] = SPWAW [1]; Combat Campaigns [1].
{SP1; SP2; SP3; SPWW2; SPanything else : Only as time permits.}
Thinking back to why I came and stopped by; followed by joining and remaining: Campaigns! If I had wanted to be on a ladder or to play on a ladder then I would have gone to those sites that have regular competitions and that place enormous attention on alias standing in the ladders. Things like medals or bonus points for win-loss results, as well as playing assaults or advances, etc ...
From what I could see this was not so here. Albeit there is an element of those things, yet they are not dominant and at best help to promote loyalty for the ladder since it does list results. Here there is the really cool campaigns in MBT WAW WW2 etc, it is the campaign stuff that I really am interested in. Battles that either depend on one another or that affect successive battles, this is more appealing then just pbem for win-loss. There is even in campaigning the opportunity to sacrifice your entire force solely for the benefit of other commanders, despite its rarity.
Lastly, campaign battles very often call for the attacker to attack at less than desirable, automatic win, attack-defend points ratios. Just as in real life. Sometimes they are even equal or less than the defender in points.
This is more interesting and a GP counts more in such circumstances than a W-L-D ratio in the stratosphere, I think.
I vote for whatever versions make campaigns easier to run and play.

I vote for whatever versions make campaigns easier to run and play.Actually that honor would go to SPWAW due to Fred Chandla's Map utilities BUT it doesn't cover modern era weapons. Depending on what is worked into the new WIN SPMBT version this could change.
All we would really need is a win compatible SPMBT and we'd be all set..
SPWAW covers that period well....(WW2)
I dunno I tried all the dos/winxp bug fixes...nothing really works the way I would like it to work....
I just wanna spend more time gaming and less time adapting....
I also think that there must be a small market for theses type of board/strategy games...I mean there will always be a place for them but there are all these new interactive type games...
I was pulled back to steel panthers cause I am tired of running and gunning games...
I mean I paid nearly fifty dollars for axis and allies that I have yet to figure out...I think its a turkey in reference to gameplay ....I think steel panthers does alot more for alot less

Just a lucky guess... :halo:
WinSPMBT (& WinSPWW2) will (very quickly) overthrown SPWAW from the heart of all SP fans!!!
I guess that some very COOL new features will make WinSPMBT unbeatable. :smoke:

As long as it runs well in XP I'm game.....

I will tell you my opinion as a veteran SPH2H player... ;)
YES :D
The winspmbt (*full version) will be perfect for tournaments, campaigns and map editing... :smoke:

Sorry, I can't make any comments on this one because it involves marketing issues :hush:
But, soon you will find out :smoke:

Could he at least tell us where the files will be posted?
Hey you can line up for days for Star Wars if it floats yer boat, I can wait to see it a few days later when not crowded.
But.... I will line up for the new SP Camo files heheh.
Clarify this though... "Sorry, I can't make any comments on this one because it involves marketing issues".
"marketing issues".
???
Has the option to "sell" SPMBT and SPWW2 altered as a result of these modifications?
Is this similar to how Matrix Games can "sell" Mega Campaigns?
Will we have something cool to purchase?
Hey I want to know if I should put a lock on frivolous purchases for the month heheh.
Blimey, the suspense is killing me..
WHEN!!!!!!!!!! :)

Could he at least tell us where the files will be posted? My guess is at the Shrapnel Games website at least. Maybe once its out some of the other sites can host it to help spread it around. I have room at combat campaigns but it might be too popular for my bandwidth allowance. I have 40 gig or so a month.

Hello Paul,
Whenever I know something for good I will send you an email.

Hi DD,
you are right, probably the Shrapnel site will be the first to host the release.
The file will be something like 100 MB. :D

You DD, will be more interested in the second one, therefore, you will have to wait a little more...
Guys, as I told you... only 2 persons in this world can decide when the game will be released...
For sure both of them want to release the game as soon as possible but it is their call... and the worst thing about these guys is that they are perfectionists
If you want my opinion, don't expect it before one more week... so continue to breathe normally :D and as soon as I know something for good I will inform you.
If you like I may directly email you... the when and where as long as I know it before you know it...

Cool on it being Shrapnel if it be Shrapnel.
I really hate getting files off of mickey mouse web sites that insist on sending you here then there then this page then that page, when all I wanted was a link to frinking well click on.
I realise those "other sites" require you to be accosted by a lot of ads so they can pay their bills, but, well I don't care about their bills :)

Was my question so ignorant that you are all too shocked to respond? :oWell, actually I refrained because there was mention of a "Full Version". That implies at least 2 versions and one or both might come with a cost but that is something I didn't figure I would press Achillies on that subject.
Legally, assuming the world has not changed recently, Matrix Games of Steel Panthers World at War fame and SP Camo of SPWW2 and SPMBT fame, can not in any way shape or form sell their versions of the game. Nor can they sell any mods or patches for the game.
Matrix Games must have had to really bust a brain cell to manage the required legal requirements to sell their Mega Campaigns that work with their free game SPWaW.
I am just assuming, that if a cash option has come into existence for either SPWW2 or SPMBT, they have gone the same route.
Otherwise, I can't see anything they have done to the game being legally made for sale.
I could be wrong of course. I am not SP Camo, and I don't have insider knowledge.
Well, we only need a full-working engine of the program to play - scenarios and campaigns can be created anyway.
Just realised I`ve got a week of work from the 30th May. Now, if it can arrive on the 28th of May, I can get a full week of non stop playing on this :)
hey, Achilles, missed your post, drop me an email in case I miss any announcement. I reeeeally want to be first in the download queue :)
Hi DD,

Only 100 megs :surprise:! Well I was supposed that at least 200 and forward megs (as almost all Windows games seems to be today ;) )... Heh great anyway  .
Warhero
You should always keep in mind that stuff like movies and background music effects...usually requires a lot of MB.
Unfortunatelly, SPCAMO prefers to focus on gameplay... :smoke:
cheers,
Achilles, any update? This waiting will kill me :p ... Still in betatesting phase, I suppose?
