Is HPS going to post it on the day of release? Or are they going to give us addicts a heads up? :D

It's always announced on the day of release...but alas, there will be a small delay on this one due to a backlog at our duplicator. Shouldn't be too long though...

A prime reason why we don't like word to get out on a game prior to release. Too many things that are beyond our control.

Thanks, I was just starting to develop a nervous tic!

I think that tic is from looking over your shoulder for the guys coming to give you your next assignment in the gulag after failing to advance at Medvin.

Well today is the 11th. Hopefully it will hit the street today. Those screens look great. Can hardly wait for Volcano Man's art work.

Me too. I've gotten kind of spoiled with those add-ons.

You can now purchase it...

Pre-ordered it 2 days ago from NWS. :D

Also bought Kharkov because I felt I needed it! Wife might disagree with me though.

This may be a little pathetic considering I am waiting on the game still -- but if it can happen ... I am hoping someone does a Holland module like the Compass mod...

iirc part of that mod required designing maps that were not included on the original CD. I am not sure if any old user can design those (iirc the answer was no) -although it is a moot point since I am not up for that in any event :)

At this time there are no plans for any map Mod add-ons to any games of the series. A Compass mod was done on the existing Alamein Map and with a second mod we thought it might be cool to add in a Beda Fomm Map. Sounded like a great idea too.

Unfortunately it may have incorrectly set the expectation that other games would be coming with additional map and that is unfortunate. People right away asked for an add on to the top of the Kursk map and a rather lengthy post on another form went on too long.

There is tons of map and game in the existing map for France 40 game - and yet this isn't the first post that has been suggesting even more be added, when few people have even explored what came in the game at all.

Hope you understand.

Glenn

Oh no - I understand -- totally - in fact I thought the bonus with Beda Fomm was an extremely cool thing to do.

I got France '40 last week and love it. I usually don't get too impressed with chrome but the sound of the gliders swooping in and landing on Eben Emael is slick. I'll review this for Armchair Gemeral.

Excellent, can hardly wait to read it. France 40 is next on my "to buy" list.

I ordered mine last week. I'm getting that nervous tic again. I wish the post office would hurry up!

Seriously, I'm looking forward to this one. I read a book on the campaign in France, and it has become one of my favorite areas of WW2 to get into. The book was written in the 50's by a French officer I believe. I wish I could remember the name.

Horne's To Lose a Battle did it for me.

With the addition of Alternate Art from Volcano Man, it will add to the already excellent series.

I'm dying to buy this game, but I'll have to wait a bit extra until the exchage rate between euros and dollars improves a little bit more.

It's a right now the rate makes the game price go 58 cent. above the tax-free value. That means that the overall cost will be almost doubled. So I have to wait for the dollar exch. rate to fall some more before I can buy it... That's global economy 101!

Jim Cobb

Betting on the dollar's continued drop is a pretty good bet. If you want a nice low base price, check out www.navalwarfare.net. Its store has the best HPS prices.

Thanks for the tip, Jim. I intend to buy from them (specially after all the PM I've sent bothering them about how to go about it. Sorry about that Chris!), In fact, if the economy stays this way (and the wife/keeper of the safe key signs the release form), I'll get the other (Middle East '67 and Korea '85)in a one per month basis - the only way to avoid Customs.

On another note, it's great news to know that you'll be doing the game's review!

Cheers!

Got my email that it was in the mail as of today :smoke: Blitz Blitz Blitz :D

Thanks. I'll be concentrating on the AI.

BTW, you're in a fine position to convince Tiller his next Napoleonic game should deal with the Penninsular campaigns.

Funny that you mention that. I live 200m from a house that served as Wellington's HQ, and about some 15km from the site of one of the most important battles in that campaign (Bussaco). I've toured that battlefield a couple of times, but I never thought about it. Shame on me! I was thinking more about the Jena campaign.

But there's no doubt the Peninsula Campaign is good material, specially because it hasn't been done for the PC (except for some custom modules you could use with the old Battleground series, made by fellow wargamers).

Jim Cobb

Given the popularity of the Sharpe series, I can't understand the neglect.

Pirimeister
18 Mar 05, 18:41
I think it has to do with it being fought essentialy by Napoleon's marshals and not by the Emperour himself. The RPG- like element of being in Napoleon's shoes makes the games seem more apealing.

Hummm, sorry to interrupt here, but Paulo, photos please??? :)

18 Mar 05, 19:53
Well, I've never taken any pictures because it was too much of an hassel to develop the film, but now with my digican I can go there and snap a bunch - and it even makes a good complement to those in the Osprey Campaign series book, which are a bit old.

I can take some and post them either here or on a more apropriate section, if you want. I think I can even do it tomorrow - the wife is busy tracking down some "IRS-runnaways" :D Hurra for tax-evasion!

But this is tipical me: outsiders have to come around and tip me about stuff I should have thought off myself...

Ordered France 40 and Kharkov 42 from NWS. Glenn do you know how long it normally takes Volcano Man to come out with ALT art packs?

Glenn Saunders
21 Mar 05, 12:12
It is hard to say and with this game there is a lot more images that he won't have in in library. In any case Danny I think you will find the game art is pretty good as it is.

OK I'll check it out when I receive the game. Been spoiled by the art put out by Volcano Man I guess.

I got my France '40 in the mail yesterday. Unfortunately my wife got home before I did and got curious. She wanted to open it, so I let her, and when she did, she gave me one of those looks... Then I told her I used my 'allowance' to get it. :D All is well in Mini-me's world. I can't wait to load it up and start playing.

dannybou
22 Mar 05, 16:53
