View Full Version : Best PBEM Scenarios
Questions for some of the veterans here on the board. I've had the TOAW game since the very beginning, but haven't really given much time to it as opposed to some of the other wargames I've played over the years. I follow the discussions on a regular basis and find it quite interesting. A lot of smart folks over here.
Now my questions. What scenarios do the veteran gamers consider to be the best??? I've been intrigued by some of the big scenarios created by D. McBride. Was wondering how they are playing and would they be worth the enormous time investment to play. Thanks in advance for your comments.

I'd vote for Europe Aflame as one of the best scenarios for PBEM. This is a big scenario that covers World War II in Europe and North Africa. If you want a good small scenario try 2 Weeks in Normandy. The big scenarios by D. McBride are rewarding but take a lot of effort and time.

There's an AAR at this site with some useful pointers.
If you advertise for an opponent here I'm sure someone will be happy to play you. Good luck!
I for one am a big fan of D. McBride's scenarios.
Yes, they are a major time investment and a roll over in turns takes some time, but I would have to consider them among the most challenging scenarios I have played.
As for small/medium scenarios, I'm partial to Kharkov 42. Also 2 Weeks in Normandy is pretty good.

Korea 50-51 is a fun one. Made by the guy who designed the game. Very managable and challenging from either side. The UN has a strong advantage with support assets, but if they are not careful in the early turns the NK player can seal an early victory. Also some fun strategic decisions for the UN player. Balance probably tips toward the UN, so if you are new give the NK side to the veteran player ;)
Todd Kleme's WWI scenarios are fun and managble too. I like Tannenberg and Serbia-Galicia.
No question Daniel McBride's scenarios are top-notch. Tobruk is a fun one to start with, as it's managable size-wise. But with his scenarios make sure and read the briefing--and read it close!
Like others have said, you also cannot go wrong with Two Weeks on Normandy.
I tend to like medium to small scenarios. I do like the big ones--I'm playing Braunschweig now and I love it--but on some of those big OPART 300 scenarios my turn rate can slow down to a turn every two weeks :OHNO:
