I just got through the third book of the Jack Aubrey/Stephen Maturin series written by Patrick O'Brian...And now I'm looking for a good naval game. I currently own Silent Hunter II and am looking at Enigma:Rising Tide but it kind of looks like junk. I would appreciate your input on this!

If I were you I would steer clear of that Enigma...seriously.

I used to own that game back when it first came out '97 I think. I had no idea they had made improvements and mods. Do you have a website?

Thanks for the update.:thumb: However I thought they would have made graphical improvements on the existing design. When it first came out I thought it looked pretty bad but after downloading the screenshots I may have to buy it again and download the mods for it. You made my day.:toast:

You can buy it from them for $9 and also get the mods for $10.
The graphics have changed for the better. I do not have it install on my PC now but when they had 4.0 the graphics were a whole lot better.

Now you got me wanting to put back on my drive. Also remeber this is strickly a surface to surface game. No subs, No airplanes. Unless they have added something in the mods.

I purchased Enigma rising tide and the only fun part about it is using the different machine guns and or cannons on the destroyers. I already uninstalled it on my PC cause I didnt want to waste the space.

Also Enigma rising tide for sale real cheap.....See above:toast:

If you can find it Carriers at War is the best naval game I have played, all of the carrier battles of WW2.

Try War in the Pacific that just came out by Matrix Games. It's really detailed wargame, but very good I heard.

Jane's Fleet Command was one of my favourites some years ago - used to be fun to fly along with missiles and planes.

That's a real shame. I used to love playing the modern-day Falklands scenario or taking on the French. :D

That same place has mods for Jan's Fleet Command.

http://www.navalwarfare.org/~content/nwp.html

Mods would slow my laptop to a crawl but the home pc had no problems. There are a bunch more missions also. You can now command subs at anytime.

Check it out.

Unfortunately the copy I used to play belonged to my housemate of the time - I'd need to find a new copy of the game.

If you guys were big on Jane's Fleet Command, you might want to check out Global Conflict Blue (http://www.gcblue.com/).

It's an open source project that looks a lot like the Jane's game.

I just wanted to add my two bits in for the Fighting Steel Project upgrade. Threy have been "thinking" about making a graphic upgrade but as it stands the game is much more detailed in the game than before (I like WWII era games). They have also added lots of new ship classes and there is an operational overlay in a seperate program called Thunder at Sea that includes campaigns and more importantly airpower and subs. Great stuff. Wasn't too happy with Silent Hunter II.

Mr Napoleon, try "Wooden Ships and Iron Men", if you can obtain it. Perfect game if reading that kind of fantastic novels
