I use them as a good start (or end if I've checked other places first and am still undecided). I wouldn't say they're my only source, but definitely a primary one that carrys significant weight. If they give it over an 80, I'll probably like it. If they give something a 70 or lower, I check to see why. If it's under a 40, I don't bother. Single digits... I've contemplated seeing if it's realy asbad as they say... but then decided I had better thing to do with $10.
I tend to put much into total score and more into what they talk about in the review. If the internet review is comprehensive and explains a lot about the game, I'll use that to make a decision.
Trust them? Not really. Most internet sites such as Gamespot and Fileplanet that review games also sell them. I've often noticed that they pander to the devs, and give bad games good-decent reviews.
No.
Even Armchair General was passing as a review what was actually a wide-pre release version of the game. I don't really believe it played flawlessly so the reviewer would have to believe that everything gets fixed for the release. That's not going to happen.
Forums are much better, but obviously the reviews start a few days after release and you need to sort out those people who like whatever they have bought.

I usually check the CGW and/or PCG review before playing a game. If it's a console game I tend to trust gamespy.
X-Play and Judgement Day on the tube are usually too late with the review (especially JD) to influence my opinion.
But online review are usually last.
The only good way to assess a game, is with as many sources of opinion as possible.
Thus, a single review has singularly no intrinsic value to me.
Take Korsun Pocket for example.
It was not the one review that had me sitting waiting to get its follow on game BiN. Nope, it was the flood of people calling it one of the best wargames ever made.
Wargamer is considered a great source of reviews. But even they can not publish a review that will matter sufficient for me to rush out and get a game.
It takes several forums, several magazines and several independent reviews before I will care.
