I have now been able to consistently replicate this problem. It occurs in PBEM games when I go to set the range of a unit by hitting "Y". The game locks up and I have to go to task manager to close it down.
Any others experiencing this? Any known solutions?

Do you have any special functions or programs that are 'y' capable?
That is an odd one. I had heard of the'Z' key causing all sorts of trouble back in the day when the DOS mode was used for SPCAMO 'WW2 game.

CirwdlakeYou know I even went home and checked to see what I have that is function enabled that would cause a SPWAW freeze. So far, I have only anti-viral, hypersnap[won't shutdown WAW but will MBT], MS OfficeXP-pro, that could cause a function conflict with WAW. It seems likely then that Chinese character keyboards and other programs will also cause this for you.
It may be necessary to wait 10 minutes for whatever that key activates to finish starting with WAW running to see what it is. This means keep you finger off the key board for at least enough time to pass for cntrl-alt-del to activate task amanager [should show what programs are now running].
But I recall way back in '97 that my mothers 486 had all sorts of trouble with WW2 and would crash regularly, much to my chagrin. I wrote to SPCAMO and in the end even after going step by step with me thru trouble shooting and installs; determined: that it was a box problem. It still happens to some that their box produces all sorts of oddities. [wait till spring and video cards get restricted for MBT function!] ...:whist:
Now for a temp solution. There is right-clicking a unit. Then clicking on set-range will allow you to reset it.
Also going to a command unit followed by a right-click; then selecting the green text on the bottom and clicking on it till it says '... all units'.Clicking on 'set range' will now affect unit in that command but they must be in communication for it to take effect.
The other choice is to go the the HQ screen [that's the tent button] and in this list of all your units you can set the formations range. [check with 'CC on; if so that's a bug].
There is also a tip for reading this far. If you are playing with 'CC off it is still worthwhile to switch your units to 'defend' from the 'advance'/
Units in defend mode even with 'CC off can acquire 'in cover' qualities. Any gun or infantry in cover may fire up to their full rate of fire without losing their 'unspotted' [can't be seen] state. This means your opp has to get even closer or sacrifice units just to find you.
Now I do this all the time. If I want to draw fire I click point to point. This usually works. But to get the units forward without being killed so that they can observe I go hex by hex and alternate between units .. not too many at one time but just enough. Eventually, if a unit fires often enough I get that unit to suddenly appear on the WAW or MBT map.
WOE is them then if they have done some damage; I shoot to completely kill them and even risk getting destroyed in the process. Afterall there is no Honour in shooting and then once out of bullets jumping up and down to surrender.
So, what happens next? Generally, I say, "I didn't see any laws of physics being broken. I didn't see anything." [and continue firing till they are completely wiped out. This tend to score big points with your comrades. Not so for the opposition.]
So some may get mad, I commit the atrocity. [get even]
:halo: They should have offered to surrender first!
