View Full Version : command radius display
How do I turn off the command radius display on the map? When I click on a unit a circle/grid displays over the unit and a portion of the map. I cannot get this to turn off once on. It is driving me crazy, especially with the task force HQ unit, the whole map becomes covered with a very fine mesh grid.
Any help on this? Thanks.
Hi Choowee
The Current Location Window has various map display commands including a tick box for HQ Command Radius. Just uncheck the box and the grid will disappear.
If the window is not displayed you can bring it up using the Menu Bar - Display/Bring current info to Top.
Great, problem solved. Now if we can just get some interest back in this sim. We need scenarios, campaigns, players, etc. The builds seem to be going fine. I have looked into scenario design, but have not dedicated anywhere near the time it requires to produce a good product. I have lots of ideas though. In reading the forums, it appears map making may be the problem now.

Yes mapmaking IS the problem. I talked some months ago trying to make a simple map generator for POA2. But Scott said it couldn't be done and the maps it would create would be to generic, so I stopped again. But IMHO generic maps would be a lot better than no maps....
Cougar has hit the nail on the head about the shortage of good maps Also gamers have been reluctant to invest time and effort into a game that to put it mildly had a disastrous launch. There is still a handful of beta tester supporting the simulation and Scott, good to his word is still working to improve it.
For a long time the game seemed to be going nowhere, as soon as one bug was fixed up popped another two. It was a nightmare, talented gamers including Don Maddox attempted to prop up the simulation but all but a handful eventually gave up.
Recently things have started to improve, there are much less problems (although bugs still appear) and some good enhancements have been added to make playing a lot easier.
Will it eventually make the grade? I wish I knew. There has been gallons of blood, sweat ant tears put into the project and it will be a crying shame if it fails.
More interest in POA2 would indeed be great because buried inside the morass of problems there's a truly fine - no - a great military simulation.
The level of detail included is awe inspiring and one never even needs to look at it to play the game. The map display with all the possible display options is capable of telling the player almost instantly everything he needs to know once he learns how to interpret it (more hot-keys to toggle on and off the various display options is needed).
The interface is a bit klunky - too many clicks - for example just to get to where one can move a unit takes a minimum of 3 clicks and that's just to bring up the movement form.
The documentation is - well - lacking. 150 pages of how the game works and very little info on how to run the sim. The HOW DO I... in the help menu is a good start - more of that is needed. For example I kept having to move a unit just to get it to face in the direction I wanted - quite by accident I stumbled on how to do it without moving the unit - no thanks to the docs. Lots of stuff like that in the game. A good scenario design doc is definitely needed - if it exists I can't find it in the PDF or the html docs anywhere.
I get way too many C++ errors and the occasional CTD to make the game enjoyable as it stands now but if those problems ever get fixed - well - POA2 will be the best simulation of modern ground combat ever made bar none - and I've got most of them. When I bought POA2 I expected the quality of PITS and TIS. Here's hoping that we'll see that quality eventually.
If any HPS guys monitor this board I'd be happy to help out any way I can. I use to beta tested for 360 their V for Victory series and the one that was WWII in Europe (don't remember the name).
Just one point about the manual, as far as I know I believe Scott is presently working on or about to work on an update.

I can confirm this, it is currently one item that is holding up an official patch.
