Are they worth our love? Some games were just plain bad (starcraft for the N64, a horrible port). Some had promice (goblin commander) but lacked in areas. And some were excellecnt (advance wars)!
What do you think.

RTSs, TBSs, and flight sims (not combat sims mind you) should be banned from even being made for a console.
Well considering the only real wargame I have ever encountered on any console was Allied General.
And considering the average console has predictably, console controls.
And considering most strategy games suck without a mouse.
And considering you might just as well play the game on a computer.
I think consoles really should just stick to games where the input device isn't a burden.
There have been a lot of strategy-light games. Final Fantasy Tactics and all the similar games to that (Shining Force for the Sega Genesis being one of the first in that genre - advanced wars being one of the newer games of the genre).

chrisvalla, I thought flight sims were ideal for consoles :p
Current generation consoles are just not designed for strategy gaming - at least not as we know it ;) Certain squad-level shooters require a modicum of strategy but it'll be a while before we see even 'Command and Conquer' style strategy games working on a console.

I must take issue with you there - The GameBoy has some great strategy games - not least of which are the Advance Wars titles.

Advance Wars 2 (I didn't like AW1) and Fire Emblem for the GBA. I can't wait for Advance Wars: Under Fire for the Gamecube to come out June 1.

the xbox could house a realtimestratigy "one word" :cheeky:
it would be beautiful and there would hardley be anny gliches and or choppies (cough:warcraft three:cough). Halo was origionaly a realtime stratigy. the broblem with the consoles of today is that the developers dont want to spend the extra time and reasurch allowing for mor versitility. they should add usb ports mouse hookups and keybord hookups. i thought it would be great if they integrated a touch pad that alloud you to use your mouse icon using an asterics or whatever. thats just me though.

Definately! Consoles need mouse compadibility! Then all the woes would be solved.

Console strategy games suck. I have not played a good console strategy games since C&C for the Ps1. Console controllers are better for shooters and racing games in my opinion.
I saw a Palm Pilot game of Barbarossa a while back.
It's not that technology can't give us a real wargame on a small mobile doodad.
But the controls will always be an issue.
If I had a hand held, it would make visiting my folks less painful :)
As it goes, being away from my computer for more than 3 days is the same as asking for blood hehe.

The Kessen series is pretty cool for a console strategy game (PS2). Kessen 3 is due out in March, and you can pick up the earlier ones cheap. I actually preferred Kessen to Kessen 2.
Civilization was out on the original PlayStation, but it wasn't fun to play. I know that Age of Empires was planned for the Dreamcast, but I'm not sure if it ever got released after Sega announced it was tanking the system...
There was a Roller Coaster Tycoon knockoff (not military, I know, but strategy nonetheless) on PS2 from EA a couple of years back. It was okay.
But I have to agree that strategy works best on PC.

The DS is promising in that respect that you can use the stylus. Hello GB RTS! To bad we are all already tired of RTS's.
