I'm curious how you are planning to play CMBB. Which style of play do you generally prefer?

When I first got CMBO I only played vs the AI. After a while I started playing PBEM and then I tried TCP/IP. That's the way to go.

I'll start off with AI and then put it thru some heavy testing against my brother to flush out bugs and flaws before taking on any ladder games. If I had done that with CMBO some of my early ladder games may not have been so rough :o

I strongly favor PBEM.

I rarely play vs the AI - the AI is okay as defender, but really terrible as attacker.

TCP/IP is to time consuming and also to hectic for my taste. I'm not that intelligent, so I need my time to think about a situation and make my plans.

Haha! That's like a chess master telling other players he's just a 'wood pusher' - just before he slaughters them.

I agree that tcp/ip is too hectic. It's like speed chess in that it's fun and fast but sloppy and full of errors.

Being a Scenario designer I like to play them all.

It is important even to play QBs with humans and AI to see what kind of units both pick so you can design a scenario that will be fun too.

It will be real interesting to see how the QBs play out with new format.

Also operational games should be real interesting with the larger maps? I am wondering how these large maps will work out. I just designed a 1500m by 1500m map and it Has heavy BNs on it... The files are too huge to PBEM because they get up to 3megs.

all of the above,,plus i plan on joining a multiplayer scenario when it is ready after the cmbo one is done..that is what this kind of game is perfect for.:D

I'll certainly start with AI but I'll switch to PBEM as soon as I have a feel of orders and such. I'm with Scipio about speed issues on TCP/IP - maybe because I like larger scenarios has an effect on my thinking too...

Nice slogan at the bottom of your posts, Aki.

13th Warrior, yes? :)

Until I entered the Recruit tournament I never played against another person. PBEM allows play when it fits your schedule and that of you opponent. I have enjoyed all three of my matches and the excellent folks on the other computers in earlier time zones. Not having the fastest mouse in the west and only a dial up internet hook-up, I'm not high on TCP/IP. Never tried it though, so it might be better than I would expect.

I enjoy the AI the most because of convenience. While it's not as strong an opponent, I can play what and when I want to. Moreover, some scenarios--especially those by Wild Bill Wilder and a few others, almost always give me a run for my money (and sometime take it from me).

Right you are, Craig...

Somehow I knew you might recognize that line with Wiking feelings LOL... Very undervalued movie - for me at least - then again I'm little biased because of my spiritual education.

We have to wait little while before starting CMBB demo as it looks like I have to do some serious backuping my HD and formating D: section. Win98SE just freezes when I access D: ... luckily I get command prompt to work and I have swapped files I need to save into C: section. Something fishy with registeries I think but I'll email you as I get things running. By the way I haven't tried Kursk scenario with CMBB demo yet - interested ?

I love that move. I own the DVD actually. The vikings were very well done as were the fight scenes and landscape visuals.

Ok, send along an email when you are sorted out. Good luck with your files. It is scary when HDs go.

I played the Citadel scenario already and also started the Yelna one, too. No worries, though. We can play for kicks and giggles ;)

Aki, I guess both demo scens are not well to play them as PBEM. One side is always just sitting around and wait that something will happen. They are a great disappointment for me.

Well, one week to go for the full version. I'm curious how the new rarity system will influence QB, and how CMBB QB are in general. I just love QBs.

My long lost mates, Scipio and Deathdealer. Reading their posts makes me...sad. I miss them.

Dorosh--you are really digging back a long way. After almost 6 years, I thought that the statute of limitations had run on this thread!

17 votes? I think we have some fresh meat in the interim!

It's already been done at the Proving Grounds. There was almost an even split between PBEM and H2H play, with most of the latter being via PBEM.

Well, that brings to mind another idea for a poll...

Sorry I mispoke in my last post. It was almost an even split between H2H play and play against the AI.

6 Years, I was a wee lad then and hadnt even heard of CMBB. I didnt get CMBO until about 6 mmonths after I had BB and frankly, didnt like BO at all and really never did, except some of the scenarios and weapons.

Anyway, I digress. PBEM for me.
