Enemy Force
Nine T-72S's, twenty-seven BTR-60PB's, ten BRDM-2's with AT-5's,
300 dismount soldiers with RPG-7s and AT-5s, and 2 BN's of 2S3 at 18 tubes each.
Mission Analysis:
I'm the commander of 2-8 CAV attached 1 BCT/1 CD. My mission is to destroy the 32 MRB, 9 RGR, seize OBJ GREMLIN, and defend along PL MICHEAL.
My plan is as follows:
1. Locate the enemy, and determine weak point.
2. Breach enemy main line of defense along the boundary of my zone (TBD)
3. Penetrate deep into the enemy rear and attack his lines from behind.
200155JAN03
The operation will begin with SCT/2-8 CAV deployed between PL JASON and PL CHUCKIE. Their mission is to locate all the enemy recon units. I want to take away the enemies eyes so I can safely push my artillery forward, and carefully move my forces north.
6 SQDRN is deployed behind PL JASON. I will try to use them as my primary recon force. They will push north NLT 200155JAN03 to locate enemy troops positions and a weak point in his line of defense.
All other units are to remain behind PL JASON. B/2-8 is positioned forward. They will lead the main force to the breaching point and support the breaching operation. Once this is complete, A/2-5 CAV and C/2-5 CAV will pass through to conduct the main attack. B/2-8 CAV will be held in reserve.

SITREP 200200JAN03:
We've began to engage enemy recon elements between PL JASON and PL CHUCKIE. Two have been destroyed.
6 SQDRN penetrated deep and have provided me with avery clear picture of the enemy's position. His left flank is very strong. So I will strike along the right flank. The right flank is strong, but provides me with more room to maneuver. If I attacked from the left, I would have roll north along a very narrow front. First, I'll need to take out a large enemy infantry strongpoint, as well as two T-72S and several BRDM-2's.
CAS and artillery will begin softening the enemy positions. All other units will remain behind PL JASON. Artillery will push past PL JASON. I don't want enemy artillery to destroy my forces as they wait for the enemy to be degraded along the right boundary.

I'm pushing 1/B/2-8 CAV forward to attack an 2S3 battalion located north of PL CHUCKIE. Meantime artillery will continue to attack the enemy armor and vehicles to weaken their combat effectiveness. High-pay off targets will be T-72S, BMP-2, and BDRM-2s.

SITREP 200400JAN03
A/20 ENG breaches the enemy right flank. After destroying the enemy artillery battalion, I sent 1/B/2-8 CAV to breach the enemy right flank far to the right. This was successful and they continued on to destroy the remaining vehicles in this area. This allowed our breach to occur without any incoming fire from the enemy.
The breach is slower than I want it to be. I have to keep assigning M9 ACE's to cut new lanes through the enemy minefield. A number of vehicles are getting tied up in the breach. I've managed to pass B/2-8 CAV with mortar platoon and A/2-5 CAV through. C/2-5 CAV and 1-82 FA are all that remains. We will resume the attack once they pass the through the breach.
We have seriously degraded enemy armor within the main line of defense. The A-10s also located a number of T-72 tanks, BRDM-2's and enemy M9 ACE beyond the NO PEN. They are still not moving south. I will wait and see before deciding to take any action.
I lost one scout vehicle. It was reconning the enemy lines when an AT-5 took it out. That really ticked me off. I will destroy every single vehicle in my zone no matter how long it takes.

OBJ GREMLIN is secured by C/2-5 CAV at 200457JAN03. B/2-8 CAV is is moving to occupy and cover my rear flank. A/2-5 CAV is continuing to move due west. C/2-5 CAV is turning south. I will move up A/20 ENG to join C/2-5 CAV if a breach is required.
Our artillery will continue attack dismount units. However, I want C/2-5 CAV ready to quickly breach the enemy line to attack remaining enemy infantry if artillery doesn't do the trick. I'm also planning to send FIST-V/B/2-8 CAV past the NO PEN with a SCT/2-8 CAV providing support. I know I could get into serious trouble, but we must eliminate the enemy.

200647JAN03 SITREP
The enemy is completely destroyed. He has no units left. My force suffered one destroyed vehicle. Our success against stiffer than expected resistance is a testimony to our forces superior capabilities over our enemy.
Lessons Learned
1. Artillery is your best friend in this mission. With patience, it can kill all the dangerous assets available to your enemy, making your operation less difficult. I strongly advise you clear out PL JASON to PL CHUCKIE. This way your artillery can move forward without being seen.
2. When not facing opposition, aircraft can be used to provide you with a clear ideal of the enemy situation.
3. Carefully plan how you employ your CAS. I would hold fire and place go codes with a straight line of ingress/egress. I would release the hold fire option when the plane was near the target, then turn it on again until the plane had egress and turned to face the target again.
4. Your infantry is not too important. This is fast moving operation. Once you start, don't stop unless you are in a clear area, or have destroyed all the enemy indirect fire assets.
5. Formation is important. As I moved to the breaching point, I knew the enemy had an AT strongpoint nearby. To avoid being spotted, I kept my forces tight. B/2-8 CAV was in Company Wedge. A/2-5 CAV and C/2-5 CAV were in Company Column Platoon Wedge. This miminized exposure without adversely effecting my combat power. Once we were ready to launch the main attack, I switched A/2-5 CAV and C/2-5 CAV to Company Wedge abreast each other. That created a solid wall of deadly steele that no force could defeat.
6. Getting your force through the breach is difficult. I'm still trying to figure out if they will recognize the clear lanes or not. They sure don't act like it.
I know I spent alot of time killing things from far away. However, there was no time limit, so I could do what I had to. Besides, this success should secure our supply lines.
