View Full Version : Scenario Editor Error
Whenever I try to open a scenario in the scenario editor, I get the following error message:
"Not enough free system resources to open scenario. Your scenario will be saved if possible.
Error #9"
Now, I've got quite enough system resources for TOAW to run comfortably - 768MB RAM, 20GB hard disk, 2GHz Celeron processor, and so on. The running processes that normally run take up about 200MB of that RAM (ugh, too much...), which leaves more than 500MB to spare, so they aren't the problem.
What else could be causing this error, and what can I do to prevent it?
Thanks!
~Ryan
First...are you running TOAW - CoW, or one of the earlier versions? Have you patched the program, and to what version? If CoW, then you should be using 1.04, not 1.06 as that one is flawed.
Secondly, what version of Windows are you using? Win2000, and XP, often do have memory problems in the scenario editor, especially on scenario dumps, and creating map images (TGA). If you have a box with Win98, or Win98SE, then that would be the best environment for using the scenario editor.

I have the same error and I'm running 1.06 on SP2. Is there a way to uninstall 1.06 without reinstalling the whole game?

Overwrite with a 1.04 patch, and it should replace the 1.06 executables.

I found this happens to me after I used lots of computer resources (mainly that damn MS IE). Usually I reboot and it works fine again.
but indeed win98 was the best.
Use memoryboost pro it cleans the memory and help you to recover place.
It is a good shareware 20$. Go to www.memboost.com (http://www.memboost.com).
I use it since 2 years and it is really usefull:love:

Sorry... I'm using 1.04 on XP (no SP2).
Rebooting seems to do the trick... thanks!

I made an error on your post sorry.
To avoid the pain of rebboting,( 2000 and XP are enough rebooting system instead of Linux), believe me use a memory cleanning tool as the one I gave you in precedding post

You've found it worth the trouble, JL?

well i guess it depends on the ram memory you have in your comp
i can open the game, the editor and sudden strike 2 in the same time
Got an AMD 3300+ with 512 Mb RAM under W2K
Der WanderOrdinateur
Currently have the editor, the game, WMP9, Firefox, an MSN running without crash.
Got a Pentium III 733Mhz and 256Mb RAM under Win Me.
Dudes, I highly suggest that you check your PC for some spywares, as TOAW crashing with new PC's (like JL's one..damn an AMD 3300+ is really a good thing to play GAMES) is almost impossible... :crosseye:
Ok speak little technical.
Win 98, ME are running the 286 memory allocation model, it means that the memory is not seperated in diffrerent zone with uncrossable walls. you load a TOAW then an other just nearby just using the memory needed by the 2 EXE file
With Windows NT 2000 XP the system run under the 386 memory allocation system. If you are a 32 bit program you run in the 386 area, if you are at the origin a 16 bit you will run in a special area created by the OS
TOAW is seen as WIndows 16 system so the 386 system create a memory zone with is full environment as a small Windows me running under W2K or NT or XP. So if you load 2 toaw you load 2 environments and the memory consumption is far greater than for 2 toaw running under W98 or Me
Hope this help
