I bought TOAW II Elite edition several years ago. The computer I had at the time ran Windows 98 SE and everything ran fine. I recently bought a new Dell XPS Gen2 from the Dell Outlet Store running Windows XP regular (not professional). I can get the program to run but the editor will not load any of the scenarios that came on the CD, nor any that I have created and saved.
I finally gave up and used the instructions posted on this forum and made my own CoW from scratch. I am so close to making it work. But no cigar! I created the nocd folder and when I put the text file created with notepad and saved as TOAWintro.smk the program instructs me to put the correct CD in the drive. I copied the TOAWintro.smk file from my TOAW II and put it in the nocd folder and when I run the program a window flashes and disappears and the program stops. I even opened the smk file and deleted the contents and saved it to the nocd folder under the correct name. Same results. Does anyone have any ideas how to make either TOAW II work and have the editor function or how to make CoW to run -- hopefully with a functioning editor? Please help!
