Hurrah!
This is cool!
Erm - will there also be beatings for people who don't win? Because if so, I'll run away and hide...

Good day, gents,
Off hand, how many team members have this password?
Damned fine job leftenant Norad. I hereby give you command of #2 troop. While I'm at it here is the Chain of Command -
1 Troop:
The Purist - also holding title of squadron commander and WHQ team despot.
Redwolf - I need an expert at my side for when shot and shell fill the ether.
JVD Fugitive - Not sure what his handle means but it sure looks snazzie
2 Troop:
Norad - A fine administrator who has earned the right to command.
Boff - A veteran to help you out 'when all other lights go out'.
Osvold - A Scandinavian! Damned fine fighters those Norsemen.
3 Troop:
Dr Sinister - also holds title of court intriguer and plotter as well as Battle Captain.
BigMik1 - This lad sound like he could eat a tank, good man to have on your side.
Yohajin - I'll bet he knows marshall arts, fits your troop rather well, I'd say.
4 Troop:
Artur - Our senior NCO (RSM) with a sharp whit and a boundless sense of humour.
Scipio - The usual veteran added to a troop, we expect great things from our Scipio in Africanus.
GZ Naz - another snappy call sign, no idea what it means, but,...
So,..you may ask why the division into troops? Easy to answer, lads, very easy,...
...bureaucracy.
Quite right! What military organization would be complete without a hierarchical command structure based soley on favouritism backed by a solid bureacracy.
Now that I have explained that which should not need explaining, I shall impart my command wisdom to you -
WIN! Dammit. Quite simple, isn't it.
Actually, I believe in winning the battle during the planning phase, so lets light up this forum with your ideas and suggestions. When our troops roll out next Tuesday, I want it be a mere formality.
There you have it.
Do carry on.

Ooh goody, I have BigMik1 and Yohajin in my Troop - I've played them both, they are good men to have aboard.
And thank you Sir for awarding me my first field Command! Victory shall be mine!
Still intrigued as to how this was visible to me without a password - I am assuming that my Staff status is the reason for this, but I raise it just in case we need to declare a code red security alert.

If you log out from the website/forum and then try to enter here on your return, you will stopped by security. If you stay logged in, you have in/out priveledge much akin to live pub entertainment on Saturday nights (your hand is stamped).
Good to know. My admin status makes it visible. The only time I do not see it is when I am not logged in to the site. I do not have to login to the sub-forum directly.
Good...once we get the word out to the rest of the troops, we can get on with the business of humiliating our opponents...(on the battlefield) ;) not in here!
Did you guys remember to mail Fionn?

Gentlemen,
Fox hunting,...long a favourite pastime for the aristocracy and rightly so. I mean, what is the point of land, name and a bushel of expendable peasants if one can't do a little sport.
As such, I suggest : ruhaloo
This is what was shouted when one spotted the fox and set off on the chase.
If there are no objection by tomorrow I shall post this to the tournament master as our game password.
Cheers.

Sounds OK to me.
*sniff*
It'll make up for the fact that my Government has just banned the sport!

He should have the password momentarily. I sent a request to him to send me his email address for mass mailings.
Has Fionn accepted a postition as alternate or advisor?

Haven't heard from him officially but even if he does not we should recruit him as a 'consultant'. All the rage these days, I hear.
D'oh! I've posted a few things in the other forum. I don't think I revealed anything but feel free to delete my stuff, admins. :o
Having said that, Hello to Dr. S. and BigMik1, my troopmates and compadres! Let us stomp those, uh, other guys.
Anyone playing as Axis interested in some TCP/IP scrapping on the map against the King's Armour? I'm fairly available before the start of the tourney, and it might be very valuable experience we could share with the team. Anyone interested, let me know at cwilson2@nycap.rr.com and we'll start a dialogue.
(Given that this isn't my 5th ACG forum I'll be using a disguise. )

Tally Ho, Chaps!
I've been thinking about this tourney and I thought it might be good to post a few things to think about before and during your games. I may be too high on the chain of command, blimey, but God save the King if I did not speak and someone would have benefited. Please forgive my impertinence. :D
1) Check out the map and be sure of which side you will be coming from. It's an interesting map from either side and it'll help you to know it.
2) Your game will probably not be decided by sheer force of numbers--unless you purchase units individually instead of by platoon, which will make for a long and painful gaming experience.
3) It might behoove you to have a variety of AFV types at your disposal. It will depend on your plan, of course. If you do any testing and discover a particular unit well-suited to the map, let us know about it!
4) It looks like neither side will be able to observe the other until the turns begin. Having a few small, fast, but otherwise useless units would make good throw-away scouts. You can quickly alter your plan based on their info, which could be worth their inevitable loss.
5) Look for good hull-down positions--dips or areas behind hills which afford good LOS and plenty of cover--and use them.
6) Move tanks in groups. Single vehicles will be picked off. (With thousands of points this probably shouldn't even be an issue.)
Please add to or comment on my words! We have one team against many others and anything might be helpful to us.
Yohajin
I just completed a simulation against the computer. Thankfully I won a minor victory. I am slated to play the British so I played the British side.
It basically went like this: The comp's Axis tanks moved toward the middle objective area steadily and carefully, therefore they weren't easily spotted (nor did they spot me) for a while. They did not advance along the sides of the map. We had sporadic contact as I attempted to engage them but in the end it came to a last flurry of movement toward the objective. I held certain terrain areas which had nice LOS on the objective area and I sent the rest over hills to expose them en masse for the final turns. I killed one or two more tanks than they did, and they didn't have anyone back holding their minor objective, which is what probably swung the tally from a draw or tactical victory to a minor one.
While the computer doesn't use a lot of different setups or strategies, it does move intelligently. I suggest everyone try this at least once. It will help you figure out key map points and give you an idea of how quickly you can move and what you can expect. I believe that there will be many draws and close calls in this tournament, with serious victories coming only from heavy losses or extremely poor play.
I discovered a few things about the map worth noting:
1) It's easy to figure out what the enemy is doing because their movement kicks up a lot of dust, so make sure you have that feature turned on (I believe it falls under the "weather and fog graphics" hotkey). Don't forget that they'll see your dust, too.
2) Due to the way the map is configured, the main objective area won't be held successfully until the end of the game... the British have too many ridges to deal with to reach or oversee it, and the Germans risk exposure if they try to take it early. Plan your strategy so that you seize and hold it at the very end, straying from that only if the enemy loses a lot of tanks early.
3) There aren't too many places where your AFVs will bog down, even if you try to plow through brush. I had one Crusader Mk. I (regular) bog down early but it recovered quickly.
4) Steady and deliberate movement will generally suffice for this map. However, there are map points which you will wish to gain (on either side) before the enemy is exposed so that you can achieve hull down status, ambushes, or safer oversight. You should have some speedy tanks to deal with this but they must have capable weaponry (20mm=virtually useless).
5) Keep something back at your "home" objective--not simply because the area might be a fine place to have a tank sitting around, but because the small objective is worth points that will be hard for the enemy to take from you.
6) Don't allow the enemy to punch a hole in your lines--given the way the map is constructed this shouldn't happen, but if it does it could be disastrous.
I'm having trouble doing screenshots--I used to know how to do this but it doesn't seem to be working, so I can't post map pics illustrating key locations. I'd like to do so, so if anyone has any suggestions (I have Win 98) then bring 'em on.
Yohajin
Yes, I have access. I'll definitely "consult" but would have to think about being an alternate as that would probably mean running with someone else's force picks and initial tactical choices which may run quite counter to what I would have deemed appropriate.
In any case if people are as enthusiastic as they seem I doubt there'll be much need for a reserve.

Glad to have you on board , Fionn. I'm still a relative new entrant to human opponents so I will probably have a few questions for you over the next couple of days. I've started a "Tactics" thread so other may post a few tricks they have used.
I feet it necessary to inform the WHQ CCT team that I'll be out of town from Tuesday morning to Thursday night, EDT (a prior business engagement). I have already e-mailed my opponent to let him know as well as offer suggestions on how he and I can get our game rolling. I don't think it'll be a problem, of course, but I'm just covering the bases.
I'll be keeping tabs on the situation... this is my first tourney and I will make sure I don't foul out or something. :o
