View Full Version : Event Editor Tutorial available ??
Hello everybody!
Is there somewhere on the net a good (or any at all) tutorial that covers the ins and outs of the TOAW event edoitor ?
I for example just did a small test event and accidently clicken in the editor on an event, copying it. The problem is that this copied event appeared behind the actual event, pushing all following events further back and I found no way to delete the useless event.
Maybe it's somewhere in the manual but I didn't find it.

I second this. We really do need some tutorials from experienced scenario designers.

There will be an extended doc up on tdg on the issue in a month or so...until then make scenario dumps and study them carfully....
One or two ideas from me:
make a little test scenario when disgning new loops and stuff. Dont try it out in the scenario under creation....you can go nuts trying to find the screw up....in a big event list.
Try out Curt chambers ODD program....
Do your programing in blocks. Dont try to get the whole event list finnish....do it step by step.
The event editor (I call it evil ed) is as Mr. Kroger says him self "optimized for power over UI"
Good luck!

If you have time to rummage through the older threads (both TDG and the original HQ) you’ll find a wealth of information. I haven’t been at this long myself, but when I do see a thread which promises some usefulness, I copy the text and paste it into a Word document. Obviously this is good not only for editing but especially good for tactics.
Also, every game related question which I have posted has been responded to quickly, with excellent insight and good advice. Again, both here and at TDG. Superb bunch of people with which to be associated.
Maybe the upcoming TDG posting will be a collection of archived questions and answers . . . that would be a tremendous help.

Where would one get Kurt Chambers ODD program?

There is no way to undo the accidentally copied event. Worse, the "affected event" pane is not updated for the change in event numbers, so all "affected event" panes past the copied event will be screwed up. Once this happens, your best option is to reload the last save.
The only good news is that once this has happened to you once you'll be burned so bad that you'll be so careful about where you click and diligent about frequent saves that it shouldn't ever happen again.
