View Full Version : New PzC game?
Would a game based on the Red Army vs. the IJA in Manchuria in August 1945 (Is my location right?) be interesting to anyone? I know I'd buy it.
Eventually yes but I feel HPS should bring home a little more campaigns from Europe to the players, like Malta, Greece 1940, France 1940, Stalingrad 42 to name a few.

That might be interesting - France 1940 - although I am not so sure such a large area would be manageable -I think it might be doable -but possibly not with the current game engine.
Interestingly I recall reading (I think on Glenn's site) -that one of the first games planned (before S41) was Salerno - that itself might still be interesting.
I'd like to see something on France 1940. How big of an area & how many units can the game engine handle right now?

That's a good question - hopefully Glenn might address it -- I can say that something the size of Kharkov's campaign game seems to get a little overloaded at times - and even though my computer is not state of the art - it is about a year old .
My computer's pushing 6, and it sometimes struggles a little with the AI on the Kursk campaign. Just curious, which current game is the largest in terms of units/map/overall?

That may just be El Alamein for the map size and Kursk for the amount of units??

I am sure that Alamein's map is the largest (think HPS even stated so ) -but anyway - it strecthes from West of Tobruk to the Nile Delta - or real close to it - Danny would be probably better able to say since I am sure he looked at the map more recently than I have.
I am just getting antsy to get another game --- and if nothing comes out soon I may well have to get into the Napoleonic games- which will put my WWII interest on hold for awhile.
I wonder if a Norwegian invasion game might work -- if you leave off the areas of the map where there is no infrastructure. OK not much in terms of actual Panzers - but maybe interesting and a smaller, maybe more manageable scale.
I know though (as Moondog -who has to be pretty busy - since I have not seen him around in ages) - was saying (as well as others) that HPS never announces what it is working on -until it is ready to be released - kinda like that in that there is no such thing as vaporware.
The Norwegian idea sounds interesting. I bet it would play similar to Sicily. Would the Winter War between Finland and the USSR lend itself to the PzC system?

Winter War.... yes....

Hey Guys:
Just read the posts and will try a few of the points at least.
Somewhere above someone mentioned Malta and of course that is already part of the Alamein Game - I think the person likely meant Crete but I am not sure.
Now we must keep in mind that I can't comment directly on the titles of the projects we have in the works but you can rest asure there are five titles that are actively in the works right now and a few more if you consider MAPS for areas where the OOB hasn't been started yet.
That said - there will be no new PzC or MC between now and the year end. We could have release one or two titles in that time but it is John and HPS that looks at the market and decides which cards to play. Now that said I think John and HPS will have one or maybe two games of the other series' out before year end, and I even think I know what one of the titles is - but here again I am not certain. I'd look for HPS to make an announce on the first Friday of the month - that would be 3 Dec as that is their normal release date.
On Games and sized, with the CPU's available these days, I think just about anything can be done as long as it is workable within the 2 hour turn time scale. That is to say the limits these days are more on how much a player can absorb and control and how many turns they can last.
Recall the X CG in Normandy 44 was 750 turns but we understand that this was not playable. Even the 160 turns for the longer ALAMEIN CGs were long enough and there was a lot less units.
In anycase, there is plenty of life and lots of titles left in the PzC Series and there seems to be a large enough following to support the game line for a long time yet.

Hmm - give this the elements which make up a PzC are amount of time, # of units and also ground changing hands. Now the Winter War lasts too long to be covered completely - but I suppose it could be covered in parts like Alamein was.
William Trotter (ex writer from PC Gamer - the Desktop General) wrote a book on the Winter War and I have a copy - interesting reading really. But I am not sure how good a PzC it would be. I guess I think there are "fatter fish to fry" - one needs only look at the East Front to see a couple pretty obvious titles that have not been done yet.
But who knows what will come - I will say Winter War on a PzC Scale is not one of the five PzC\MC we have on the A list right now however.
...and with that I've likely said too much already.

Thanks for correcting me Glenn, I did mean Crete. And I thoght of another title: Campaign of the Scheldt 44 :)

Regarding Crete - imo - too small of a scale unit-wise to be a stand alone game -- which means imo it would be part of a larger game - but how large is large?
I could see Greece Oct 1940-May 1941 as a decent fit - but there was that thing about Yugoslavia - which if you add that on -would be by far the largest map ever done in this series.
Sometimes it is not so much if the hardware can handle it - but the judgement of what players can handle to make it a workable game; as well as of course - the main thing - the judgement if the game would sell. Just my 2 cents.
Actually Glen siad more there about pending games than I have ever seen anywhere else - they got 5 they are working on. None of the 5 are the Winter War (which I could see - it would seem to be better suited to the Squad Battles series to me ...
too much infantry vs infantry.
On Fat Fishes: you got Stalingrad area --- you got the Moscow campaign that come to mind... :smoke: I suppose you got Tunisia/ -the Kasserine area that also comes to mind... Salerno (maybe -can't imagine that one being totally dropped, and something with Crete in it ... ) just my predictions - based on size and scale
-and yes I know - HPS and their guys (in this case Glenn) don't comment on their stuff -so I am not trying to fish any answers. Just thought it would be fun to take a guess.
