I'm considering running a tournament with the following three scenarios:
Tannenberg 14
Kharkov 42 (revised)
Nordic Light
Please express your interest in playing via the poll.
The tourney would be non-elimination with no subs, a STRICTLY controlled time schedule, and overall scoring based on points earned.
If you'd rather do an all WWII East Front tourney ... let us know in the poll!

Try again! I think you came in between me posting the message and getting the poll done!
I didn't mean that I couldn't vote in the poll, but that, strictly speaking, I couldn't but subscribe to this tourney. Moi parler english? :D
That said, I jumped the wagon and indeed posted before you could set up the poll...

please no tannenberg scenario, it's just so much one sided
russian have no chance to win, their best bet is a draw.
I played this scenario on the german side twice against sheik yerbouti and laszlo nemedi, 2 players who have more skill than i have and i scored a draw against sheik ( nearly a victory) and a victory against laszlo.
The scenario is fun on the gemran side but playing with russians is quite boring i think

Remember ... you will get to play both sides. Also, the scenario summary (http://www.war-forums.com/forums/wfhq-ld-ladder-games.php?ld=on&ladder=The+Operational+Art+of+War&scenario=1741) shows it as being balanced. I do agree that to win is slightly harder as the Russians, but its no Kasserine Pass! :crosseye:

I agree with viri. I played Tannenberg in a tourney over at the blitz. It is possible for the Russians to win by more than a scant MV, but only if the German player totally goofs his defense.
There are other east front WWI scens out there.

How could I vote no, when my dream of seeing danish forces in action are about to come true. My eyes are filling with proud tears.
Sorry, but I can play turns too slowly to enage a tournament...
ive voted for 3 wwII ost fornt scenarios but ill play either tourney

I added another poll question to better reflect this. I'll change your vote, Ploynike. If anyone else needs a change let me know.
I voted "Yes" on the 3-war Tourney, but I'd prefer playing 3 WW1 scenarios.
They have the virtue of being relatively short, are in general well-designed, all having been designed by Todd Klemme.
In my experience (admittedly quite limited), his scenarios are among the best.

Yes, I'd play in the 3 wars tournament (is there such a thing as TOAW-burnout? ...)
However, if Tannenberg is no fun as Russian, wouldn't that be bad for morale, even with mirrored games...? (Sorry cannot name a suitable replacement though :OHNO: )
Good that it's no elimination; that's only fun for the best...
OK, WWI guys, what would be a good alternative to Tannenberg?

..
However, if Tannenberg is no fun as Russian...I'm only one voice but I found the Tannenberg scenario to be fun and interesting as the Russians. Check out the AAR that Redstorm and I did (http://www.war-forums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7126).
Your tournament idea is fine for me!!!

I would probably prefer other scenarios, specially for the modern wars, but hey, I got so found of the idea that I would very much play those three scenarios... let them come! :D

Viri said my result in Tannenberg.
Anyway I prefer WWII Eastern front scens. I can do turns only in one week timeframe, but cannot guarantee more (and one max two games parallel in the tourney...)
:nervous:
Love to play - as I voted, but it depends on the timescales. I have a few games I need to progress first and real life has got int the way reecently - probably fit to start in a few weeks ??
I'm game. Let me know the details.

I imagine we'll start in a couple weeks, around Dec 1.

I agree! Many kudos to Nemo for this suggestion. I'm really liking it more and more as I consider the scenarios.
Tannenberg ... planning an operational strategy is critical. This is a game of deciding where to place your troops and knowing when not to attack. Forget soak off attacks and trying to get just one more combat round. You'll feel lucky to ever get more than two.
Kharkov ... a fairly straight tactical battle with a few deployment decisions. This will test how well you understand using artillery in TOAW and managing combat rounds grows more important.
Nordic Light ... where to start??!!?? Don't be deceived by the short number of turns. The map is big, the choices huge. Artillery is no longer that important but you have airborne, air assault, fast moving armor, strong anti-armor, etc. It will be an exciting finale!
The winner of this tourney will have demonstrated a complete understanding of the TOAW engine, tactical competency, and operational awareness!
I imagine we'll start in a couple weeks, around Dec 1.
You really should begin after the holiday season is over. Maybe the second week of January.

Oh my god! What a tease! Who could possibly hold it that long?

The time-table will factor in a holiday break. I know I get a lot of family visitors so play comes to a screeching halt for almost two weeks.

LOL!!!
Try some Kaopectate and strap on some Depends (just in case...) :o
The whole thing sounds fine by me. I know almost nothing about Tannenberg, so it would be fun to learn a little history. For that matter I've never played any of the WW1 scenarios. Figured they would be too static.
Of course, I'll never say no to the East Front, but I think Westpointer has put together a nice little selection of scenarios.
I also like the "non-elimination" clause as long as we have committed players. More fun for everyone.
"King" (for a little while) JoeBob :D
Go ahead! Knock me off my hill! :p

after the good scenarie of winterwigiter (that is balanced, 40% OV in each side)other things seems little things. However i only played kharkov before and we have to learn to play in all circunstances. resume: i ll play (and we need to know how are thinking about times and rules)
This looks more and more interesting - quite a nice mob that has signed up for the tournament. Looking forward to it :D

A Christmas break of 2 weeks is optimistic, believe me. :D Count on 3. That may seem excessive, but I've watched this happen before... The alternative is as Jam has stated, to wait 'til afterwards.
Well, I think the poll results are final enough that we can go ahead with a formal signup.
I vote one week, MAX two weeks for sign ups. If you haven't signed up by then you're not serious about it.
Pretty good format too I think. We will all play against 6 differnet opponents! Hmmmm... so suppose we have 21 for example sign ups, well I guess right off the bat we need an even number? Or not. I guess not because most could start off with two games but some could have one or three. Well, the format should be easy for somebody smart to figure out... Okay West Pointer?
Can't wait!
