Even with my fog graphics on I see no fog at all. I figure it may be something to do with my video card settings but I know little of such things:confused: . any suggestions on what i can try?

Well, if you wish you can meddle a bit with your monitor; maximum brightness and very low contrast will yield the desired result ...:p

You are correct that your video card is the prime suspect. I'm no computer expert either, but here's my experience on the matter, for what it's worth.

When CM first came out, I was running an 8mb ATI Rage type video card. At first I could not get night or fog effects. The night games would not load at all. I upgraded my video drivers and things were much improved, but far from perfect. I could run night games, but there was still little or no fog.

Early this year I got a new computer with a 64 mb G-Force 3 video card. Excuse the pun, but it was like night and day. Most important I have been able to see the full fog effect for the first time. However, even this vastly improved card required that I downlaod and install driver updates before CM ran the way it should.

Bottom line: update your video drivers. If you still have problems, ask the folks at battlefront.com (Big time Software) for assistance. Be sure to tell them as much as you can about your video card and what driver version you are running. As they told me a couple years ago, some video cards just wouldn't be up to all the tasks presented by CM. Be aware that they might be more than a little busy, as CMBB is coming out in less than a month. thus, you may have to be a little more patient than usual until you get a response.

Good luck and I hope this helped.

I too updated my driver.. It worked!
The other thing I did at the same time was to make a special saved game folder outside of CM to move any scenario design work I was working on to that file and clean up my saved games in CMBO. This seemed to speed things up too..

I assume that you are talking about the Windows XP automatic updates that now include drivers. If so, I was abe to update my G-Force 3 with that easy method. But before I had to do it manually under Windows 98. You find the manufacture's web site and see if they have driver updates to download for your specific card. I don't know whether or not they will have different updates for the same card with regard to different operating systems (e.g. Windows 98, ME, 2000 and/or XP, etc.).

If that doesn't work, contact Battlefront, and hope that your video card does not have a problem with the game. As you probably know, it is not unusual for some games to have some (or even a lot) of problems with certain video cards and/or formats. Like I said, I'm not a computer expert of any stripe, but have run into that issue in the past 4 1/2 years that I have had my own computer. Good luck!

i have an intelr82810e video card. I finally found something at an intel site..it mentioned that my card could not recognize pixel fog i believe was the term, and that i would need the upgrade to do so...i screwed up the install but if done right, i think that will solve my problem,,,and hopefully somebody elses. Thanks for the tips guys

What graphic ard is this? I thought I know something about hardware, but I never heart about it. Is it a card, or is it possibly an on-board chip?

If you end up upgrading to a new card I recommend getting one with a nVidia Geforce 3 or 4 chip on it. They're the best video cards money can buy. Fast, reliable, and they have a ton of features that support all the latest and greatest the gaming industry can offer.

They're not cheap, but what is?

Hey Thor, if you DO buy a new graphic card I heartily recommend the GeForce4 Ti4200 series, they are exceptionally powerful for their price. For the same money they still try to sell you the old GeForce3 Ti500 (much less capable). Or you shell out a 100$ more for the top class GeForce4 Ti4400 or Ti4600, but imho their slightly better performance isn't worth it. Even less so since hardly any game makes full use of their capabilities yet, only some ego-shooters like the infamous UnrealTournament need that.
